Founded in 2003, Hong Kong Dog Rescue ( HKDR) offers assistance to dogs through sponsorships and training workshops. Having cared for and re-homed more than 9,500 dogs, it is known for its adoption services. If you’d like to adopt from here, don’t forget to complete its Adoption Questionnaire here. Apart from dog adoption services, it also accepts donations and welcomes volunteers!

Ocean Park is one of Hong Kong’s biggest amusement venues with plenty of animals and rides to partake in and enjoy. Pandas, sharks, stingrays, dolphins, penguins, sea lions, walruses and large manta rays are some of the headline animals to see at Ocean Park. The venue has scrapped it’s widely criticised dolphin show, which has been replaced with a Marine Mammal Caretaking Workshop. Inevitable Waterfall: Sassy goes over one, despite Shadow's efforts to save her. She survives thanks to being found by a nature watcher, but Chance and Shadow legitimately think that she's dead.

4. "Haters gonna hate."

Looking to adopt a pet chinchilla, a turtle, or a guinea pig? With a wide range of species to choose from, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is the first charity in Hong Kong to deal with all aspects of animal welfare. The adoption process generally requires some paperwork, one or more visit (s) to the adoption centre ( depending on the type of pet), and an adoption interview. Translation Convention: The pets are dubbed in English, along with a couple of animals at the animal shelter. I first saw this film when i was around 6 or 7 years old and didn't really think it was anything particularly special. AS time went on i watched it a few more times and it started to grow on me as i started to understand the morals of the film, which i will come to later. For a while i left this film alone and didn't watch it for a while. When looking for an old classic film to watch a few weeks ago (now being 15), I dug out the VHS of homeward bound. After watching this i was left on a natural high that i couldn't really explain. The film gives an overwhelming sense of joy that you never really expect. The films nature of three completely different animals collaborating together to find their way home really sends a message home that no matter how different you are you can always find common ground, something that you all need. The way the personalities of the characters is chosen is truly fantastic. In that you have an old knowledgeable wise golden retriever, looking after or guiding 'chance' the fun loving if slightly clumsy young American bulldog, with sassy the clever, vulnerable but confident cat. The film follows these three friends or companions on a journey that is so realistically impossible it creates magic in that you start to believe that this journey can happen. From Hong Kong Wetland Park to the Botanical Garden, there are plenty of wonderful places to watch wild animals, farm animals, fish, birds and more in Hong Kong. Here are some of the best places to see and interact with Hong Kong animals.

When Chance flings the cougar (or, as he called it, "Arnold Schwarzakitty") into the air, he yells, " Hasta la vista, kitty!" There are over 50 species of seahorse, all of which display remarkable gender equality. After engaging in an elaborate and respectful series of courtship dances, impregnated males carry the eggs to term. Many individuals are gay, bisexual, or otherwise radically queer. Monogamy is practiced by some individuals, but without the oppressive institution of state-sponsored marriage. With no power hierarchy, seahorses could be said to form the most purely socialist societies on the planet. Kadoorie Farm and Botanical Garden , Lam Kam Road, Tai Po, New Territories, Hong Kong, 2483 7200, [email protected] , www.kfbg.orgAmplified Animal Aptitude: Two dogs and a cat are able to communicate, even having a rather eloquent conversation about the nature of their relationship with humans towards the middle of the film. Though Hong Kong Paws started work in 2005, it was formally established and registered as an animal welfare society in 2011. It works with local animal shelters to provide financial aid, animal care consultation and rehoming services. Sassy Mama team members have fostered many puppies from Hong Kong Paws before they went on to find their forever homes. Fill in the necessary forms if you would like to adopt or foster a dog or cat. Surprisingly, however, the film will also both touch and entertain viewers who have graduated elementary school. The "characters" aren't too cheesy to make you roll your eyes, the plot isn't so animal-rights leaning (like Free Willy, for example) that it will make your stomach turn, and I think that the simple love between a child and his/her pet is something that we can still relate to long after we've "grown up". If you are not dabbing at your eyes (or at least seeing through some mist) as the end credits roll, then the fault may just lie within your cynical self. There are more than 600 birds and 70 different species at the Edward Youde Bird Aviary, which has been open to the public since 1992. The birds here are mostly indigenous to the region and there is a raised walkway so you can catch all the birds in action without disturbing them. The facility is enclosed by 3,000 square metres of mesh, with an emphasis on preserving the already existing trees and foliage.

Located in Tin Shui Wai in the New Territories, Hong Kong Wetland Park holds 61 hectares of diverse wetland as well as a modern and beautiful visitor centre, exhibition galleries, theatre, souvenir shop and indoor play area. It’s home to a variety of birds, insects, turtles, rodents, small mammals, amphibians, fish, spiders and even a crocodile named Pui Pui! It’s extremely family and stroller-friendly, and with the size and range of activities available, you can easily make a day of it. Hero Antagonist: The workers at the pound. They have nothing but the best interests of the animals at heart, and are only holding them there until their owners come get them. Also, doctors pull the porcupine spines out of Chance's face because he needs them removed, even if it hurts. Unfortunately, the animals grossly misinterpret what's happening, and cause even more trouble for themselves as a result. PREFERRED HABITAT:Alongside humankind. Dogs prefer to be part of the masses, whether the masses are fighting for justice or surrendering to the will of the state.

Kirsten’s Zoo – Cat, dog, and small animal adoption

Mood Whiplash: As Shadow, Chance, and Sassy run together after having gotten separated, Chance trips and yelps " Whoops, gopher hole! "

Located in Sai Kung, Catherine’s Puppies is here to offer the help and care our furry friends deserve. Since its rescue shelter opens every day from 11am to 4pm, you’ll have plenty of time to drop by and meet the dogs before making your decision. Though called Catherine’s Puppies, the shelter has a lot of surrendered old dogs as well. Chance has porcupine spines removed from his face while he's still conscious, even having several doctors hold him down. A vet in real life would have anesthetized Chance before going anywhere near the spines. Language Barrier: It's shown that animals can't understand human speech, and a lot of human behavior confuses them. As such, the animals could have avoided a lot of trouble if they knew what was really going on.Whiskers N Paws, 10/F Horizon Plaza, 2 Lee Wing Street, Ap Lei Chau, Hong Kong, 2552 6200, WhatsApp: 9696 6200, www.wnp.com.hk Lifelong Animal Protection (Cat adoption centre) , 11 First Street, Sai Ying Pun, Hong Kong, 6691 7131
