Flushed with the resounding success of the iLoud Micro, IK Multimedia has gone all-in with its sound reproduction efforts, with the iLoud MTM – a new design offering a totally neutral monitoring solution. They span a wide frequency range (37Hz – 30kHz) with very little variation in colour across it (a +/- 1 dB accuracy) which means that the response is flat. The T-RackS Metering Suite offers you a full range of metering tools to help you get your tracks sounding perfect.

iLoud Micro Monitor wowed the world with the bass performance it delivered from a 3” speaker that “defied physics”.

Virtual tests can't be a ground for decision making but they helped me notice a solution for a problem I faced many times. This is built into the speakers themselves, with the measurement mic is included, and will compensate your room's acoustics by internally adjusting the frequency response. For connectivity, we tried a few different setups; our mixer channel provides a pair of stereo RCA outs, so that was an easy decision, but for our audio interface– which offered XLR or two ¼” TS jack outs, we had to source a different cable. The compact IK Multimedia monitors sounded subdued compared to the width and depth of the larger, three-way Dynaudio Core 59 monitors, although there was no shortage of punchy bass. The only two aspects that kept bothering me where the clarity of the stereo imaging and the lack of low end.

The second, labelled Score, starts with the first one and adds the score as an optimization variable. The iLoud MTM firmly belongs in "pro" space with this kind of good on-axis response and reasonable directivity. Perhaps to aid its portability, all inward connections – power and audio – are sent to one speaker, which then daisy-chains sound and power to the other.I like bass as much as the next guy/gal, but would rather have rolled off, but punchy defined low end than bloat.

You’re likely to have already heard of the the smaller offering from IK Multimedia, the iLoud Micro Monitors. IK’s patent-pending Physical Response Linearization system tweaks performance in real-time to maintain solidity in the low end. Computer Music magazine is the world’s best selling publication dedicated solely to making great music with your Mac or PC computer. As well as bringing the output of the drivers into alignment, it causes a narrowing of vertical dispersion. similar to amir though, i have to keep the gain very low even though i use a apple usb c dongle as the dac which i believe only outputs 1v.In keeping with IK’s push towards providing portable music-making gear, there is also a little brother to the MTMs; the IK Multimedia iLoud Micro Monitor. The back panel is where you'll find the input socket, the volume knob, the switches for the various EQ settings, and the mini-jack input for the ARC measurement microphone. There should be no objects in between your ears and the monitors – make sure you can see them in full. They really do up the ante and deliver the kind of response, specs and results you would expect to be paying a lot more for – although maybe not as much as the three or four times more than IK claims. Our esteemed editor reviewed the IK Multimedia iLoud Micro back in SOS November 2016 and, given that monitor's minuscule dimensions, Paul was extremely impressed.
