Description

Octavian's usual attire consisted of a white toga over a baggy shirt and jeans or cargo pants. In The Son of Neptune, at the muster, he is seen wearing multiple medals over his armor. When he appointed himself Pontifex Maximus in The Blood of Olympus, Octavian began to wear full senatorial garb. Later, during the battle, he donned Imperial Gold armor and jewelry, along with flowing purple robes. We won’t give anything away about the end of the book, but just know that it was an emotional roller coaster for some of our all-time favorite characters. The most interesting thing about this last book is that while a few demigods seemed to have gotten their stories wrapped up with a nice little bow, a few more of them appear to have only just begun experiencing a new chapter in their lives. Perhaps this means their stories are not over, and we’ll be seeing our friends again. One can always hope. In spite of being a legacy of Apollo, Octavian seems to favor violence and is quite bloodthirsty, a common trait of Ares/ Mars' demigod children. By The Blood of Olympus, Nico comes to absolutely despise the self-proclaimed Pontifex Maximus (to the point that his throat "constricted with hate" while just thinking about Octavian), and even considers personally assassinating Octavian without any qualms. Nico notes how different Octavian is from his love interest Will Solace, despite them both being a descendant of Apollo and describes the former as looking like a watered-down, unhealthy version of Will, without anything in him that makes a child of Apollo special. Octavian, on the other hand, seems to have finally come to appreciate what a powerful ally Nico could potentially be for him, as he claims to see a decent amount of ruthlessness in the son of Hades, which he also greatly appreciates. Hence, Octavian promptly attempts to sway the son of Hades to his side, arguing that the Greeks hadn't ever actually done anything for the former. Octavian claims that he can beat any offer the Greeks might have given Nico, and assures him a place in New Rome in return for Nico siding with him and allowing the Romans to win. Nico, however, doesn't even consider the offer, declines right away, and promptly tells all of the assembled demigods to listen to what Reyna has to say, just as she arrives with the Athena Parthenos in tow. Nico is later present when Octavian intends to shoot an onager at Gaea, and clearly sees that doing so will result in Octavian's death. However, it is at that moment that Nico recalls what his father Hades had told him, about some deaths that cannot and should not be prevented, and Nico needing to act when the time comes. Hence, for the first time, Nico decides to trust the wisdom of his father, and stops Will Solace (who stares at him in disbelief) from trying to prevent Octavian's plan, and subsequently witnesses the augur's horrific fiery demise, along with the death of Leo and destruction of Gaea. While Nico isn't at all saddened by Octavian's death, he is very guilt-ridden, since Nico feels that him choosing not to prevent Octavian's death unnecessarily cost Leo his life, something that he is unable to forgive himself for. Nico is also horrified of Will now possibly thinking of him as a monster for letting Octavian die, but is extremely relieved to learn of that not being the case. Shadow Travel: Nico can use shadows as a way of transportation; however, great distances tend to wear him out. The first time he shadow traveled, he passed out for a week.

Power Over the Undead: Nico can reanimate skeletons, summon Skeleton Warriors, put them to sleep, and destroy them. In The Battle of the Labyrinth, Nico was able to permanently banish Minos to the Underworld. In The Battle of the Labyrinth, he was able to summon over a dozen skeleton warriors all by himself. This is a powerful ability as it allows him to have an army anytime he wants. Summoning too many undead warriors at one time can cause fatigue, but by The House of Hades, he can summon a significant number without exhaustion. As shown in The Blood of Olympus, when he is angered enough, Nico can destroy even undead warriors that aren't under his control, which he does with Bryce Lawrence's zombie troops. Whenever he needs a personal chauffeur, Nico summons Jules-Albert, a loyal French zombie. In The Tower of Nero, Nico is able to control an undead Tauri Sylvestres. In The Sun and the Star: A Nico di Angelo Adventure, Nico is able to control the undead in Tartarus to help fight Nyx and her monster army.At some point near the beginning of World War II, Nico and his family left Italy for the United States, where they stayed at a fancy hotel in Washington, D.C.. Shortly after arriving, Nico was playing Mythomagic with another boy his age, Henry Whittaker, and he mentioned that Ares was pretty. Henry said that was weird and they stopped hanging out. But superimposed over the ruins was another layer of reality – a spectral mirage of the palace as it must have appeared in its heyday. Whitewashed stucco walls lined with balconies rose three storeys high. Columned porticoes faced the central atrium, which had a huge fountain and bronze braziers. At a dozen banquet tables, ghouls laughed and ate and pushed one another around. Percy receives a second Iris message showing Nico again, this time conducting a ritual to raise the dead.

Sadly, Nico's popularity only lasted a few weeks. After that campers did whatever they could to avoid him and forgot he was at camp. (Though a year or so later Will Solace tells him this never happened, he in fact isolated himself). The fact that Percy had begun dating Annabeth did not make Nico feel any better. As a result, Nico takes to only showing up at Camp from time to time. Sometime after the Battle of Manhattan, Hades gave Nico a French zombie chauffeur, Jules-Albert, for his birthday. Octavian recognizes it as a prophecy, however, Annabeth attempts to make him believe it is not one. The seven have Ella leave the conversation, out of concern for Octavian's intensions. June 18, 2007 - Percy, Annabeth, Grover, Tyson, and Clarisse La Rue arrive in Miami, Florida after their odyssey in the Sea of Monsters. Jason Grace, Piper McLean, and Annabeth Chase infiltrate Odysseus' Palace in Ithaca using Hazel Levesque's magic, where a gathering of evil spirits or suitors is occurring. Jason, disguised as an old beggar man named Iros, is called out by Antinous who questions why Iros is there. Jason covers himself by stating that he is still running messages for the suitors and attempts to get more information out of Antinous. Eurymachus, a ghost, accidentally gives away information about how Gaea is stopping the demigods from getting to Acropolis. Eurymachus is stopped short by Antinous and is destroyed. Antinous tells Jason that Apollo no longer has control of Delphi and that Victory is running rampant, so there is no way the demigods will win. Michael Varus, the previous Praetor of Camp Jupiter who lost the Twelfth Legion's Eagle in Alaska goes up to Jason and tells him that he cannot leave since someone has come to see Jason. Jason's mother, Beryl Grace, appears to him as a ghost.Utgard-Loki challenges them to a variety of contests, with the giants losing each one, despite their illusions, magic, and minor deities Sensitivity to Death: Nico can sense death as it happens or when it is coming; when a person close to him dies, it comes as a ringing in the ears. In addition to that, he has a deep knowledge of the Underworld and knows when a person's life is being judged in the Underworld. Nico can also sense when an immortal is fading, as in the case of Pan in The Battle of the Labyrinth. His powers are so great he could even sense that Percy and Annabeth were close to the Doors of Death within Tartarus. When Leo Valdez died, Nico sensed it, but he also sensed that something seemed different about his death, likely because of Leo's resurrection by Festus with the Physician's Cure.
