Description

This story is set on the island of Pago Pago, where the passengers of ship are stranded ,for at least two weeks, as the crew supposed to be taking them on to Apia are in quarantine due to an outbreak of measles. Among the passengers are Dr Macphail and his wife, plus the Davidsons, who are missionaries. The couples have befriended each other and go about finding lodgings with a trader and prepare to sit out the wait. However, the trader is also persuaded to find room for a Miss Sadie Thompson and her arrival soon causes problems. Mr Davidson is puritanical and soon wishes to put a stop to Miss Thompson’s partying and male visitors, with tragic consequences. There was something so familiar about the way the novel was written that instantly hooked me. Although not the easiest subject to read about, I wanted to read more and more and more. The weather, and in particular the incessant rain, plays a significant symbolic role. It starts when the characters arrive, and only stops when the tension is broken with the story's conclusion. Imagine this: It’s a warm, sunny Bank Holiday (rather unusual for the UK), you’re in a hot tub with the boy of your dreams, and it starts to rain. It’s not, however, normal rain. One drop can, and will, kill you.

Two couples - Macphails and Davidsons - arrive at Pago-Pago, an island in the Pacific Ocean. Due to quarantine, they have to spend some time here before going to another island. The travelers are not happy with this delay. To make matters worse, the rain continues without stopping in Pago-Pago. In short, if you love a good natural disaster novel and don’t mind having your heart broken, “H2O” is a wonderful choice for upper middle graders and up.Hypocrisy, self-conceit, mercilessness, and human weakness in the face of temptation are all expressed in this short story. The combination of those may lead to drama.

H20 or The Rain (if you're from Britain) is a book that I've been really looking forward to reading for quite some time. We all need water to survive so the concept was equally terrifying and ingenious. Now take that idea of tainted water and add in a pathogen of some sort that eats you from within and replicates in said water and you have yourself a pretty damn interesting story. I feel like I was bamboozled! Led astray! Hoodwinked! This book was supposed to be spectacular! It's an apocalyptic world with killer rain! How could you go wrong with that! Obviously a lot because I seriously had to force myself to finish the book, and even then I was really only skimming the last half. What a waste of a perfectly good book cover... I skimmed the last couple of chapters, so I have a pretty good idea of what happens between the part that I stopped at and the end.Not only did this book have a really stupid and annoying main character, it had a really rubbish ending! I feel like it's some kind of ironic omen that it started raining pretty hard halfway through typing this up! genre.
