Not a bad whisky at all, considering that my colleague Heiko and I drank a whole bottle (he 25%, me the rest) to celebrate an event going well. The next day, however, neither of us had a headache. I'm sure that counts for something?

Continuing in my st-paddy's day's theme I went to my favorite liquor store and bought a bottle of 10 years old bushmills. I usually go for the 1608 original bush, but felt like going a bit older this time. He said: "The first taste I thought was quite smooth but after the first couple of sips the taste got a little harsher. I preferred to drink it with ginger ale, measuring the same amount as the whiskey, a single shot. The ginger ale helped take away some of the harshness without compromising on taste. I would buy this again but would always drink with ginger ale." Bushmills 10 Year Old single malt whiskey is triple distilled from 100% malted barley and matured for at least 10 years in sherry butts and bourbon barrels, giving it extra luscious notes of vanilla honey, ripe red fruits and creamy milk chocolate. Whiskybase B.V. (“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”).

Nose is light, fruity, sweet with banana. On the palate it is clean, fruity and smooth. Floral and easy drinking. You can tell it has been triple distilled. The finish is short but moreish. Bushmills 12 Year Old single malt whiskey is triple distilled from 100% malted barley and matured in Oloroso sherry butts and bourbon barrels before being finished in marsala barriques from Sicily. Cubed ice / 35ml Bushmills Original / 10ml Triple sec / 15ml Honey liqueur (i.e. Drambuie) / 20ml Fresh lemon juice Triple distilled and matured in two woods, presumably American oak and sherry casks as the 16 year old, but without the finishing.

NOSE: very gentle and fresh; creamy, a bit of citrus (lemon, lime), banana bread, ripe banana skin, apples, slightly floral, a touch of cocoa powder. Bushmills Irish Whiskey is crafted with care at The Old Bushmills Distillery in Country Antrim, Northern Ireland Water makes the whiskey a bit more “cereal-forward” with some porridge notes and Nilla wafers taking center stage. Lovely either way, but I prefer it neat. No partnership, joint venture, agency, or employment relationship is created as a result of your use of the Service. Palate (undiluted): light arrival, floral, honey, milk chocolate, a touch of salted butter, more applesWithout prejudice to the section Liability below, the Service may be temporarily unavailable during maintenance, updates, etc. We shall make reasonable efforts to inform you of any unavailability due to maintenance or updates. Bushmills 16 Year Old single malt whiskey is triple distilled from 100% malted barley and matured in Oloroso sherry butts and bourbon barrels before being finished for up to a year in port pipes. This unique combination of casks imbues it with big and bold notes of concentrated dark fruits, nutty treacle toffee and dark chocolate. I've come to share my love of whiskey with my dad, although I must admit I'm not a connoisseur or pretend to know what makes a particular good one at that. It's why I gave my dad, and my partner, Mark, a try of the Bushmills Irish Whiskey, which comes from the world’s oldest licensed distillery, Bushmills. Bushmills 10 is where Bushmills really starts getting good and that triple distilled Irish single malt gets a chance to shine. From the complex and aromatic nose to the warm fruity palate it’s wonderful whiskey and I can’t recommend it enough. It’s quality drams like this that make me wonder why so many folks have such a bias against Irish Whiskey. Sure some of the blends are crap, but so are some Scottish blends. The single malts and single post sills though, those can be very nice indeed.

There's also a bitterness that comes in the after taste: like lime zest and apple peel. with a just a bit of metal. Bushmills Original is an approachable whiskey with a rich, characterful taste of fresh fruit and vanilla I’ve got a bit of a soft spot for Bushmills since James Joyce mentions it by name in Ulysses. I’m a fan of everything Joyce wrote, so my scoring may not be purely objective. Complex fruit again leads the charge with notes of malt, vanilla, honey, a light spice and a light sherry like sweetness. A touch of walnut shells and citrus spring up towards the end before the finish.TASTE: Robust flavours of caramelised peaches and mango marry notes of toasted almonds and walnuts, giving exceptional depth and complexity
