Description

As an alternative to a stand alone reader pen some devices, like the popular and affordable ScanMarker Air, are designed to work with a computer or mobile device for full usability. If portable computing is required, Braille notetakers are machines with word processing features similar to an electric word processor or laptop, but with a Braille keyboard and / or Braille display.

If you have not learnt to touch type then finding your way around a computer keyboard may be difficult if you have low vision. There are keyboards and accessories which may help you to navigate around the keyboard. A word-processing pen is the same thing as a reading pen or pen scanner. What are the different reading pens?Accessories are also available which dial the telephone for you including voice operated diallers - they are used WITH your existing telephone.

For many of my students with learning disabilities, the greatest frustration is that they don’t have a level playing field. Everything is built-in and there is no need or requirement for internet connection. Develop the ability to read and understand Scanmarker – This OCR digital pen scanner can upload its scans to documents in many file formats. It is accurate and features Bluetooth technology, making it easy to get real-time uploads from printed text media. The ScanMarker reading pen connects to your mobile devices or desktop computer. Like the others, all you need to do is drag the text reader across a line of text and it can then be saved on your device. Using OCR technology, the ScanMarker can help to improve anyone’s reading skills. Speechify – Try a text to speech app for large portions of text The RNIB Newsagent (formerly National Talking Newspapers and Magazines) provides a wide range of newspapers and magazines for people who find standard print inaccessible. It offers a range of newspaper and magazine titles in a variety of accessible formats, including audio CD or USB, DAISY CD, Braille, large print and online. Scanning pens are part of the accessibility technology suite for those with dyslexia and similar conditions. What is a scanning pen? What’s more, it captures words and locates them for you, giving you instant results. It also remembers the words you have looked up and keeps the history available for you. While scanning pens can work as language translators and scan text from printed media, they’re not always the best solution for digitizing documents and other materials. Text to speech readers like Speechify often have the best OCR technology and greater language processing accuracy.
