Water butt – I personally decided to test the Strata 100L Slimline Water Butt and this works for the Rainsaver Mini 100 litre Green Water Butt Double Kit and the BeGreen 100L too. The BeGreen 100L Capacity Mini Rainsaver Water Butt in my mind is almost identical to the Mini Rainsaver 100 litre and the Strata 100L. And is one of the only surviving water butts from my review a couple of years ago. Water butts come in a range of sizes. Naturally, having a small water butt is better than none, so even a 100 L model can be useful, especially in small gardens.

If the water butt does not come with pre-cut holes for the diverter, you will have to make these yourself. Measure approx. 10 cm down from the top of the water butt, on the side facing the downpipe, and mark where the hole will go. Use a hole saw with the correct size bit (as per the water butt instructions) to create the hole. In terms of real life practical use I won’t sugar coat this. As you’ll see in my example I was able to cut this with a stanley knife. When I bought one of these a couple of years ago I got a slightly different design. If you look at the one in my install it looks different but they are definitely the same maker and product – both are equal quality and my original lasted very well. Here’s a look at the latest one I got: After initially setting up this plastic water butt, it felt a little wobbly. Mine was standing on rough ground, and even though I had levelled this out before setting the water butt up, the legs didn’t quite seem as though they would hold up to the job.

It’s easy to see why slimline water butts are so popular, and the Charles Bentley 100l Slimline Water Butt Setis one of the bestselling models out there. I put it to the test, and unsurprisingly it come out as one of the best water butts if you’re after a slimline model. Its slimline design means that this water butt is taller and narrower than a traditional water butt which saves a fair bit of space. Now, there’s all these fancy kits out there but my preferred method of install over the years has been to simply divert/convert your guttering to take run off rain water, but with the added bonus of any overflow finding its way to a soak away or drain. So that’s what I am going to show you first up. I’m installing a gutter on my new plastic shedand simply running an overflow off of the water butt pointed at the soak away. A picture is worth a thousand words in this case: Installing a gutter with the Strata 100L Slimline Water Butt on my new plastic shed with an overflow into the soak away

Consider the micro irrigation kit if you wish to water plants (at floor level) directly from the water butt with a simple turn of the tap. Consider the Irrigatia solar water pump to water hanging baskets The components are all well made from strong materials so you don’t have to worry about the working life of this product.
Like our previous review, ports have been pre-cut on each side to make set up easier, but this model also has removable plugs in the ports, and handily, threaded tap holes have been pre-set up in two different places so you can choose which side to install the tap.

One complaint I have is I am struggling to get the tanks to fit together tightly because of the overflow kit so they need to be spaced apart a little. Other than that I can’t really fault them. Pros: If it’s not pre drilled you’ll need a 25mm flat bit and a drill. I always use my impact driver, though overkill, it’s perfect for a 25mm flat bit so lovely and light. If you’re eco-conscious, consider what the water butt is made from. Designs produced in the UK from high-density recycled plastic tend to feel stronger and more robust , while also being kinder to the environment. The set-up process for this water butt was pretty standard, taking around 15 minutes . You connect the legs, create the necessary holes in your drain pipe and water butt (there are indents that show you where to drill) and then fit the various pipes.

Installation - This kit comes complete with a rain diverter kit, 20 inches long, which fits standard 68mm round plastic downpipes, or 65mm square plastic downpipes. For reasons of hygiene and safety, personal grooming products, cosmetics or items of intimate clothing cannot be returned. Runners up: Rainsaver Mini 100 litre Green Water Butt Double Kit and the Strata pro Ward 250L Slimline Water Butt [personally tested and proven with full installation of water butt and gutter guide] Charles Bentley Ward 210L Garden Round Plastic Water Butt – stand is an ideal height for a medium to large sized watering can

Water butts which are ‘below ground’ are fully protected by the earth that surrounds them and will not require additional care in the winter months. Biggest is not always best when it comes to collecting rainwater. The UK has short intense bursts of rainfall in the summer. With conventional water butts, the diverter throttles the flow before the water butt is full, meaning precious rainwater is lost through the down pipe when it is needed the most. The Prestige water butt is different, it collects the rainwater flowing down the downpipe until full and then overflows. At first glance, the Strata 100L Slimline Water Butt Set looks near-identical to some of the other slimline designs available on the market. However, dive in a little deeper and you’ll notice that there are a few subtle differences that set this model apart from its competition.
