Having listened to many IEMs that follow the Harman curve target, the OH2 pleasantly surprised me by deviating a bit from this paradigm and leaning more towards neutrality, with a slight emphasis on the midbass over the sub-bass. This doesn't mean that the subbass is weak, but it's far from having the best rumble I've heard from a dynamic driver, and it doesn't extend too deeply into the lower regions. One thing notable is that the crossover between timbre from dynamic and BA drivers was not noticeable. The Dawn is a dongle DAC with a fixed cable while the iKKO Heimdallr functions both as a dongle DAC and wireless BT streamer. With its small form factor and light cable, IKKO Gems OH1S is extremely comfortable to wear. Even in long periods, there was no pressure inside the ear and no discomfort was found around the outside of the ear. The output of the two is also different. The iKKO Heimdallr ITB03 has a 3.5mm SE and 4.4mm Balanced output while the TC44A has a 4.4mm SE output.

Within the unusual chambers of the OH10 are a fairly standard (that is to say, proven and tried-and-true) hybrid combination of a 10mm dynamic driver and a Knowles 33518 balanced armature driver. The dynamic driver is a titanium-coated polymer design. I’ve never run into IEM shells constructed like these ones. Overall, I think the iKKO Heimdallr ITB03 is a good step forward for iKKO. Being iKKO’s first attempt with a wireless BT Steamer, I am impressed and excited for what’s next to come. IKKO consistently creates high-quality and great-sounding IEMs at affordable prices. What’s not to like? The design of the Gems really stands out. All the mystic stuff aside, there may be something in there that pertains to the OH10. Perhaps these IEMs do have the ability to ‘heal the soul’ or bring ‘depth and clarity to emotions.’ I certainly feel that way when I get lost in the music I love, played on gear that excels. The OH10 shine like finely polished hematite. The Ikko Ikki have unique monks that can spread their religion to other regions. They can also incite religious rebellions. Should these rebellions succeed in taking regions, they become Ikko Ikki regions rather than standard rebel regions.

Tech Highlights

Music transitions smoothly into the midrange, with no unnatural bumps or dips. Vocals and instruments take a more dominant position in the mix as they aren’t being upstaged by a boosted bass section. Things sound smooth, clear, and well defined, with a moderately intimate presentation. The SVAS is said to help in physical tuning, including sound dampening and minimizing mutual interference between the drivers, making the sound clean and transparent.

Visually, these are very different devices. The TC44A is a T-shaped OTG plug with a DAC chip inside, eliminating the need for cables. The Heimdallr ITB03 is either in a more conventional Dongle-DAC type with a unit + cable form or in a wireless BT steamer. The Gems are able to deliver a punchy low-end, although no one will accuse them of being bass-heavy. When the music calls for it, they provide the goods to nod your head or tap your toes. All the while they remain clear, fast, and snappy sounding. It’s an engaging sound signature that reminds me of the experience of listening to good monitor speakers, rather than massive subwoofers. The silicon tips have an oval-shaped exterior, complimenting the Gems OH1S’ oval nozzle while the foam tips have a circular exterior. Initially, it was intriguing how a round-shaped tip would fit in the oval nozzle, but the round foam tips took the shape of the nozzle as it was attached. Similar tips such as the Spinfits also fit snuggly in the oval nozzle. Imaging and soundstage for both devices are pretty good for their price range. Imaging on the Heimdallr ITB03 is exceptional showing better layering and feels more well-composed.

Sure, the cable may require some untangling when removing it from a case, but after a few moments, that’s sorted, and you can forget that it’s there (as it should be).
