Coco Glucoside is our secondary surfactant. It is compatible with anionic, cationic and nonionic surfactants. We use this to improve the foam (makes the bubbles more stable and last longer) and to help with wetting the mixture to make a “dough”. Whisk all ingredients together. Drizzle under running water while filling the bath. Super Bubble Bath SLSa is derived from coconut and palm oils and is a natural surfactant. It is what adds bubbles to our bubble bar and gives a quality long lasting bubble.

Fractionated Coconut Oil: We use the fractionated coconut oil because its a lightweight oil. We use the carrier oil to help wet the dry ingredients and to add moisture to our bath. You can swap it for sweet almond oil or another lightweight carrier oil. Storage Don’t be fooled: Many natural bubble bath options are pure but don’t create big or lasting bubbles. You’d be better saving your money and using a simple olive oil bar. The Cream of Tartar is used to help harden the bubble bar and to help hold the ingredients together so our bars don’t fall apart. Another option is to make your own bubble bath! This is great for the DIY-ers or folks who want to make 100% sure their bubble bath is toxin-free. Same old story: Most of the bubble bath soaps on the market contain some really terrible ingredients… parabens, fragrances, even formaldehyde. Yep.Kokum Butter: Kokum butter is a hard brittle butter that helps our bubble bar hold its shape. You can swap this out for cocoa butter. Washing away the natural oils (sebum) on our skin too frequently can cause dry skin or may cause the skin to go into sebum overdrive and actually cause greasy skin. My mom used JOY soap for the bubbles, but hey, it was the 80s. Baby Genevieve holding a bottle of JOY If you are adding more than one color, separate the dough and add the coloring to each part. Note: When choosing the color, you will need to decide if you want the bath water to be colored. Mica will color the bar but not the bath water. To get the bath water colored, you will want to use a lake dye. There are few things that can compare to the JOY of a bubble bath. I still remember soaking in a big vat of suds in my parent’s laundry tub, sculpting Santa Claus beards on my face and making towers and bubble castles.

Our skin actually houses good bacteria that shouldn’t be washed away too often. That’s why skin-to-skin touching is so important to newborns who are developing their microbiome. The Baking Soda is used to help to create the “dough” for the bar. When it is introduced to the bath water, it also helps with softening the water. It makes the water softer because it makes it slightly more alkaline. Vegetable Glycerin: We use vegetable glycerin to make the bars a little more moldable and less likely to break apart. It is also a humectant, which means that it will draw moisture to itself.

Take out a small portion of the strawberry bubble bar mixture for the green tops of the strawberries. Add a green mica powder and mix well. Combine the wet and dry ingredients together. It is going to take quite a bit of mixing to get it to your dough-like consistency. The finished mixture is going to feel a little too wet for a bubble bar, just trust that it will harden up for you. In a large container mix together the dry ingredients (SLSa, baking soda, cream of tartar, arrowroot powder, and kaolin clay). The SLSa is a very fine powder and you may want to wear a face mask when adding it. In this recipe I am using three surfactants. Two of the surfactants (SLSa and Cocamidopropyl betaine) are to create bubbles and the third (polysorbate 80) is an emulsifier.

You’re never to old to enjoy a good bubble party! I like to add a few drops of Lavender, Peace & Calming, Chamomile or Stress Away essential oil to my baths for added therapeutic effect. How About You?

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix well. I like to start out with a spoon or spatula and then finish mixing it with my hands. You are going to pinch off a piece of the bubble bath and hold it under the running faucet to create bubbles. Sometimes if the bar feels too hard, you will have to rub your hand together under the water to help it soften up a bit. Since we are not using a preservative, you do not want to introduce it to water and then reuse the bar. It is best to just break off a bit. SLSa: SLSa is a natural surfactant that is derived from coconut and palm oils. You will want to be sure to wear a a mask when handling, as the powder gets into the air easily.
