Martin, Douglas (June 7, 2013). "Richard Ramirez, the 'Night Stalker' Killer, Dies at 53". The New York Times. New York City. Archived from the original on June 11, 2013 . Retrieved June 10, 2013. Delroy Easton Grant, a serial rapist who operated in London during the 1990s and 2000s, sometimes referred to by the British media as the "Night Stalker" Carlo’s interviews with Ramirez are featured in Netflix’s Night Stalker: The Hunt for a Serial Killer.

In Mandarin, Veronica’s name was Tsai-Lian Yu. She had had lunch at June’s house, and the two women, with June’s one-and-a-half-year-old son, had gone out for dinner at the Edokyl Restaurant in Pasadena. Veronica, like June, had been born in Taiwan. Both women had immigrated to America seven years earlier and each spoke English with a strong accent. Veronica lived-with her parents in Monterey Park. She was looking forward to a good night’s sleep. By the time of the trial, Ramirez had fans who were writing him letters and paying him visits. [130] Beginning in 1985, Doreen Lioy [131] wrote Ramirez nearly seventy-five letters during his incarceration. In 1988 he proposed to Lioy, and on October 3, 1996, they were married in California's San Quentin State Prison. [132] For many years before Ramirez' death, Lioy stated that she would commit suicide when Ramirez was executed. However, Lioy eventually broke ties with Ramirez in 2009 after DNA confirmed he had raped and murdered 9-year-old Mei Leung. [133] By the time of his death in 2013, Ramirez was engaged to a 23-year-old writer. [134] Ramirez in 2007. Bobic, Chrissy (January 27, 2021). "The Night Stalker Detectives Are Still Renowned for Their Work in the Case". Distractify . Retrieved August 7, 2021. At age 12, Ramirez was taken under the wing of his older cousin, Miguel "Mike" Ramirez, [12] a decorated Green Beret who himself had already become a serial killer and a rapist during his service in the Vietnam War. Mike often boasted of committing brutal war crimes and shared Polaroid photos with Ramirez showing Vietnamese women whom he had raped, murdered and dismembered or decapitated. [13] [14] Ramirez would later state while incarcerated that he was fascinated, rather than repulsed, by the images and stories Mike shared with him. Mike taught his young cousin some of his military skills, including stealth and kill tactics. [15] Around this time, Ramirez began to seek escape from his father's violent temper by sleeping in a local cemetery. [15]Shortly after the shooting, Ramirez moved in with his older sister, Ruth, and her husband, Roberto, an obsessive peeping tom who took Ramirez along on his nocturnal exploits. [17] After Mike was released from the mental hospital in 1977, he sometimes accompanied Ramirez and Roberto on these voyeuristic walks, spying on women in the nearby areas through their windows. [18] [19] By the time Ramirez had turned 14 in early 1974, he began using LSD frequently. He and Mike resumed bonding over their shared use of drugs and alcohol. It was during this period that Ramirez began to cultivate an interest in Satanism and the occult. [20]

Carrillo often went to the sheriff’s East L.A. office, where sheriffs detectives from different homicide teams would meet, using it as an informal annex to their office at the Justice Building. Edith’s cousin, Joseph, came down from upstairs and told them he’d summoned the police. He had heard the screams for help and had gone to a veranda off his bedroom that faced Alhambra. He had seen the killer trying to pull Veronica out of the car and had immediately called the police. Other people came out of their homes and apartments and gathered around the dying woman. On September 20, 1989, Ramirez was convicted of all forty-three charges: thirteen counts of murder, five attempted murders, eleven sexual assaults and fourteen burglaries. [125] During the penalty phase of the trial on November 7, 1989, he was sentenced to death in California's gas chamber. [126] He stated to reporters after the death sentences, "Big deal. Death always went with the territory. See you in Disneyland." [127] No, you didn’t. You follow me. Why? What you want? She stared at him with disbelief, her almond-shaped eyes dark and angry above a delicate, lovely jawline. I am beyond your experience...I will be avenged...legions of the night, night breed, repeat not the error of the night prowler and show no mercy." pg 395, spoken by The Night Stalker at his sentencing of 19 death sentences issued by the State of California.
