Right from the beginning, the stage width of the L30 II never fell short. Only when the song calls for it do the singers and instruments come closer but still not squashed inside the head. Topping L30 II outperforms its predecessor with a cleaner presentation. The output has a lower total harmonic distortion rating of 0.00006% while the OG L30 had a THD+N rating of 0.00007% resulting in a cleaner output. Improved Dynamic Range:- Any item returned incomplete or with physical damage such as scratches etc., excessive signs of use, or abuse will not be accepted for return. Measurements predicts that we have tons of absolutely clean power and that is what I heard. Even with my low impedance and very inefficient Ether CX headphone, I had no trouble getting clean sound to the limits of what I could tolerate. Ditto for HD-650 which produced exceptional detail and thundering bass which it can only deliver when pumped with authority.

Headphone Amps: Topping L30, Benchmark HPA4, SparkoS Labs Aries, Flux Lab Acoustics FCN-10, LittleDot MKIII SE, xDuoo TA-30All those lazy sounding portables like Meze 99 Classics and Sennheiser Momentum 2 started running faster as if someone spook them from behind. It changed them…in a good way, I’m still spotting the naturalness in both, but their laziness is gone forever.

Guitars are easy on the ears with a springiness that ends in a steely twang. The L30 II also gives calmer piano pieces a nice timbre to play with taking only a slight underperformance in terms of showing the intricacy of quieter notes. On the other end of the spectrum, I tried a pair of Mr. Speakers AEON Flow closed. This headphone has a much lower impedance of just 13Ω but requiring the amp to supply quite a bit of current due to the lower 92dB SPL. Despite this, the Topping was able to power the AEON to a respectable volume level at maximum gain, with some power to spare. I find this type of amp works well with more colored and warmer-sounding headphones and can become a bit fatiguing with ultra-resolving cans. I especially did not like the combo of the SP200 and the HEDD HEDDphones. The E30 II / L30 II combo fit great under my old iMac. The E30 II comes with a total of 6 different PCM DAC filter options and 2 different DSD filter options. I like the way Topping implemented the mode switch, being able to activate the modes manually gives me more peace of mind compared to its automatic counterpart. If something goes wrong while adjusting the DAC, you can return the DAC to factory settings by holding down the volume up, volume down and mute buttons simultaneously on the remote. About 1/3 the power of the L30 with a maximum output of 1 watt into a 32Ω load and only 2 gain levels 1x and 4.5x. (Gain is hard to compare due to dB on one and x on the other. To my ear the high gain on the Atom is split the difference between the mid and high on the L30 so probably roughly 6 dB).With a nice design, perfect build quality and a very high price/performance ratio, we have to present the Cayin HA-3A our Recommended Buy Award. I started with my difficult to drive Dan Clark Stealth headphone. In high gain, the L30 II had no trouble driving it to incredible volume and dynamics. Except in one rare case, I could not get the amp to produce anything but pure, clean distortion-free response with amazing detail. The unit has 3 gain options: -14dB, 0dB and +16.5dB. Combined with a super low <0.1Ω output impedance, the L30 II is compatible with almost any kind of headphones, including high-sensitivity IEMs. In terms of output power, the L30 II can push up to 2500mW @ 32Ω which is enough to drive almost any headphones. You can access this menu by pressing and holding the multifunction touch button on the front panel for 5 seconds while the device is on standby. When you are done adjusting the settings, press and hold the same button again and when you see 8-8 on the screen, it means that you have successfully saved the settings. I recommend using the remote control for the setup menu as it is both easier and more practical. With cleaner power coming into the L30, the first thing that I noticed with the L30 is the distortion-free presentation. I can say that the L30 remained clean, and when I plug in sensitive IEM’s I can’t perceive any noise at all. Adding a preamplifier functionality to the L30 II is a welcome feature. However, since it uses analog volume, the only way to add a remote if needed is by pairing a DAC like the E30 II. However, I'm worried that this happened in the first place and if something has burned internally due to the incident, as it has never happened to me before and now I'm afraid that it will happen again and may damage the rest of my devices.

Sound Impressions

Sennheiser HD6XX kuulosti paremmalta iFi:n Zen CAN:illa, kun taas L30 II suoriutui paremmin Abyss AB-1266 Phi:n kanssa. The amp and dac both look very well built. They are made of aluminium and have a very premium finish. The front is covered in some acrylic glass that looks very modern and exclusive. Impressive overall. Aside from aesthetically being a perfect pair, the E30 and L30 were designed to be sonically complementary. While the L30 has a very neutral sonic presentation, the overall sound of the E30 is slightly warm, and rich, with good depth for such a small DAC. When paired with one of SMSL’s flagship amplifiers, the SP400, the DAC doesn’t feel inadequate, on the contrary, it scales well with the various amplifiers I tried, many of which are well above the E30 II’s price tag. E30 II, SP400 combo delivers an almost colorless reproduction and reflects the signature of the Edition XS headphones that I use daily. The E30 II is a great DAC and basically a steal at this price point.
