Description

The unit’s onscreen operating system is fantastic. Designed with full colour, high-resolution graphics, friendly icons and clear text, even the biggest technophobes can make basic changes with no hassle at all. The digital TV displays are similarly clear, particularly the programme information banner (called the ‘i-plate’), which tells you everything you could possibly need to know about the current programme, including the resolution and the presence of Dolby Digital. That said there are a few exceptions, all other ITV regions, UTV and STV in both SD and HD have full 7 day programme listing as information for these is provided by Freesat. Select Yes and press the OK button to restore all setting to factory default. To return to the previous menu, select No and press the OK. Also is there any way to auto convert recordings? I am still manually converting them to get the DLNA logo to stream.

The equipment is tuned properly to the same antenna equivalent to that of Freesat (28.2°/28.5° East).AV2HDR adds the facility to use FTP transfer to send the video file set created by AV2HDR directly into a selected folder on the HDR.

Please note that once you perform Freesat Tune, all Freesat channels will be deleted. Select Yes and press the OK button to delete all freesat channels. So this is a little embarassing but the upshot is I now have two working Humax. I did try the system flush before but assumed it wasn't working. However, as I soon found after delivery of the replacement Humax that both of the PSUs were working fine I began to be suspicious as to the thoroughness of my original troubleshooting. As it turned out, reading the instructions properly really helps and I was using a NTFS format USB not a FAT32 format when trying to flush the system. Once this was rectified, the system flush worked like a dream so for the benefit of other people looking for help in the future, definitely give that a go having read the instructions properly before you either a). despair or b). spend any money on bits. Thanks Graham I can finally see them after reinstalling Twonky4 media server under root video folders but now I have more questions than before You can navigate the EPG by selecting the genre of your desired programme, which can then be viewed as a table, a list or a schedule of selected shows. You can also find a show by inputting the name. The Humax FOXSAT-HDR can record two channels at the same time. You can start watching a programme that is being recorded from its beginning even though the rest of the programme is still being recorded (chase play).

You do however misunderstand slightly, it doesn't replace the software you have, rather adds to it allowing some standard Linux and other enthusiast devoloped apps to the box. This allows you to for instance view the recordings remotely on smart TV's tablets etc (technically you can a add a DLNA server). Also copy recording files directly to a PC for viewing anywhere. Question 3) Can non-freesat recordings manually set on remote rather than web? Although it is nice to do on web so that I can type the programme name but having to turn off the machine every time is not ideal. As part of its Freesat+ branding, the Foxsat-HDR includes numerous useful recording features. It will automatically adjust the start and end times of recordings if the beginning of a programme is delayed or moved to a different time slot. You can record a whole season with a single button press, and the Humax will record a repeat of a particular episode if its original broadcast clashes with previously set recordings. Finally, the Foxsat-HDR will recognise when a programme has been split, (as some films are by the news) and record both halves. These features rely on broadcasters providing updated scheduling information, but we had no problems when recording shows on popular channels from the BBC and ITV. A service management system to display status of custom applications, start or stop them, and disable/enable boot-time autostart.

The entire front panel drops down to reveal a bank of regularly used buttons, a common interface smartcard slot and a USB port, which enables you to move MP3 and JPEG files between a pen drive/external HDD and the unit’s hard-disk, turning it into a multimedia hub. But even more impressive is that you can archive TV recordings on an external hard-disk. However, the manufacturer’s reserve the right for deciding the release of the software for their products by transmitting the latest software versions over the air via satellite. Instructions say press standby and other users say you need to press standby for around 30 secs. I've not updated mine for a while and I've always powered off and it's always worked for me. The HUMAX doesn't see the Ethernet info via DHCP, I've added the info manually and it doesn't seem to connect. Overall, it's a classy looking machine that's reassuringly well built. Inside is a 320GB hard disk that can store about 80 hours of HD programming or 200 hours of standard-definition (or somewhere in between for a mixture of the two formats).Upscaling of standard-definition pictures is good enough too, and usefully, you can bypass that feature altogether by setting the video output options to 'original'. It's an asset any AV enthusiast will value and, as an added nod to convenience, the Humax will output 5.1 over HDMI, too. On the plus side, I have the ability to properly troubleshoot future failures so not a bad outcome, as long as the existence of two working boxes is not immediately apparent to the other half that might perceive this to be "clutter" or "unnecessary." As for iPlayer content, obviously it's not as crisp as satellite-delivered HD, but it is surprisingly good – and it also adds considerably to the Foxsat-HDR's appeal. It's not cheap, but in this case, you definitely get what you pay for. NOTE: It may take 5~10 minutes to update software. Other functions will not activate while the software update takes place. You cannot schedule programmes during the software update.
