Description

On the D750 we get various effects modes, including the ability to combine two shots to achieve High Dynamic Range imagery. Time lapse functions, two card slots (SDXC and UHS-I compatible) plus built in Wi-Fi for connecting to your other smart devices (as likewise offered by the D780) further the D750’s overall usability. It may not offer the 4K video of the newer D780 or its revamped image processing engine, but the D750 is hardly featherweight in terms of its own overall feature set; there is a reason for its longevity after all. Incidentally, the D780 also offers dual card slots, both accepting the swift UHS-II SD cards. Still sounds like a reasonably modern camera doesn’t it? But in the current (2018) Nikon full frame and pro-body line-up, who’s it for? Photo taken with the Nikon D750, Sigma 24-105 F4 ART and a PolarPro ND/PL filter.

Both the D750 and D780 are intended to be all-round offerings for enthusiast photographers shooting a variety of subjects, but the frame rate newly introduced on the D780 inevitably makes its class of DSLR even more of a serious contender for action shooters than ever before. Nikon D780 vs D750: AF system As for shooting video, the Nikon D750 produces nice-looking 1080p in a 4K world. Put simply, don’t buy a D750 for video. AlternativesIf you use the MB-D16 grip, you can use a second EN-EL15 for a total of 2,460 shots, and the D750 will swap seamlessly between them. The grip can take six AA cells instead. You'll get 430 shots with 6-AA alkaline cells alone, or about 1,660 total with the EN-EL-15 in the camera and 6-AA in the grip.

These minor differences don't matter: a sharp, in-focus and unblurred photo at ISO 12,800 with the D750 is always going to be sharper than one with less depth of field or blurred from a same shot shot at a slower ISO if things are moving. If you need ISO 12,800, use it.Make no mistake, the Nikon D750’s image quality remains competitive in 2021, and its full-frame sensor lives on in 2021’s Nikon Z5. Having a good and usable dynamic range allows you to capture demanding scenes with bright light and deep and dark shadows in one shot. It allows you to shoot underexposed to preserve your highlights and lift the shadows in post processing. The Nikon D750 is built for that kind of photography. It even had a special metering mode for that, called highlight weighted metering. If you activate that mode (looks like spot metering with a small Asterix added to it) the camera will meter for the brightest point in your scene. When reviewing images you’ll notice that your shadows will turn very dark and lose a lot of detail. But you can easily recover that in post processing. As you may have read I’m quite happy with the Nikon D750, as an all-round performer I think it is one of the nicest (Nikon-)cameras you can buy. No matter what you throw at it. AF performance isn’t the best in the world anymore. But that isn’t because the Nikon D750 isn’t good, but more because there are newer cameras that have even more sophisticated systems like the D500/D850 and D5. But since those are in another price range it still is class leading. The same goes for image quality. So, all in all, I can’t think of any other camera you can buy new for the same amount of money as the Nikon D750 that offers such great balance in image quality, usability and features. So if you are a Nikon shooter that wants to upgrade or switch within the F-mount system I’d say the Nikon D750 is a great contender that certainly deserves your attention, even though it has got a few years of experience under its belt. It only flips up 135º or down 90.º It does not flip side to side, and you can't flip it 180º for self portraits.
