I inadvertently put this to the test, as I was shooting a wedding in Portland, Oregon, and had the lens in a harness system. The lens design fully accommodates the Fast Hybrid AF of Sony E-mount cameras for super-fast autofocus functionality. barrel) to be easily fixed in post-processing, especially with the included lens profile in Lightroom.

Nothing compared to a dedicated portrait lens, sure, but there were many situations where I could throw the background out-of-focus at F1.I’m actually a huge fan of the 18mm because it’s so great to carry around all day, since it is a pancake lens. For hiking, I tossed it in my Tenba BYOB 10 (which then gets thrown into my hiking bag), and for short excursions around the city, it fit nicely into my Peak Design sling (with plenty of room to spare). I have also filmed a video about the triplet in their most recent Canon EF-M versions below, but most of the results also apply to the other versions. One of my favorite things about Sony is that they are not restrictive with third party lenses when it comes to in camera profiles. If you need portability and telephoto pulling power, the Micro Four Thirds format is an appealing option.

I recommend that you take a look at the image galleries here to see more images that I took during the review. The lens focuses smoothly and quietly during AF-C mode, and I found face tracking to be better than typical for the Sigma DN series, with no noticeable “glitches” where my face was lost. As previously noted, the physical design of the 16mm DN is instantly familiar to those who have used either the 30mm f/1. Third party lenses get the first party treatment for in camera corrections of things like distortion, vignette, etc…. In this case, however, the automatic correction will be there in both your JPEG images and through the embedded profile in RAW files. The longest of the three, this 56mm lens has an ‘effective’ focal length of 90mm, coupled with a fast f/1.

The ‘effective’ zoom range in full-frame terms is 88-320mm which is very useful, even if it doesn’t give as much telephoto reach as, say, Canon’s EF-S 55-250mm lens for APS-C format SLRs. equates to a 24mm equivalent focal length when factoring in the APS-C crop factor, so this means it’s great for street photography, landscape, and travel. This X mount version has a field of view equivalent to a 24mm lens on full frame, due to Fujifilm’s X system cameras having APS-C size sensors. One nice touch that I’ve seen on some of the ART series lenses and that is included on the 16mm DN lens is a rubberized transition zone on the included lens hood right where you would grip the lens hood to loosen or tighten it. In most situations I found the quality of the bokeh to be fairly nice, as this shot of pillars on a staircase shows.Sharpness does fall off a bit when you look toward the extreme corners of the frame, but even then, if you are stopped down, sharpness and resolution remains good. An experienced lens manufacturer offering a diverse range of interchangeable lenses, SIGMA provides the innovative Mount Conversion Service, in which we change the mount of a lens in one of our new product lines to another mount of your choice (charges apply). The only issue that I can think of is it does not have image stabilization but that’s not uncommon for a fast prime.

lens of this focal length, but is nevertheless smartly turned out with TSC (Thermally Stable Composite) components and a metal mounting plate. I’ve got nothing but good to say about the AF on this lens, which hasn’t always been the case with Sigma lenses in the past! With a clever retractable design, it’s both smaller and lighter than the original lens, and has the bonus of a significantly greater maximum viewing angle. The focal length is not so wide that you should get too many weird “polarizing” effects in blue skies.

The sharpness is also nicely even across the frame, with fairly good edge performance (important for landscape photographers). This is, by a good margin, the largest lens in the DN series, but it is still a relatively compact lens by normal standards. This means that when you turn the focus ring it sends input to the focus motor, which then moves the elements to focus.
