All surfaces must be clean, dry and free of dirt, grease, grime and mildew. All waxes, polishes, silicone etc. should be completely and thoroughly removed. Treat any mildew with a 50:50 bleach and water solution. Scrub the solution on to the surface and allow it to stand for 10-15 minutes then rinse thoroughly. The door didn’t take us longer than 20 minutes so we could do it all in one go but if it will take you any longer than 20 minutes, you will need to work within areas that can be completed within this time-frame. Polytrol is non-flammable, however any rags, steel wool etc. soaked in Polytrol may spontaneously catch fire if improperly discarded. Clean the surface with Net-Trol, rinse thoroughly and allow it to dry for a minimum of 24 hours depending on the surface. Using Polytrol on metal Owatrol Polytrol is best used to restore the colour and appearance of dull and faded surfaces such as Faded Plastic, GRP, Chrome, Aluminium and Stainless Steel, Flat and Chalky paint work, Terracotta Floor Tiles and many other surfaces that have been suffered from UV deprecation, weathering and pollution, on bare and coated surfaces. Polytrol can be used to restore the shine and protect against corrosion. Application

The Owatrol Polytrol Colour Restorer is also suitable to be used on tarnished plastics, gelcoats and a range of other surfaces. Applied simply with a cloth or brush, Polytrol dries to a tough and long-lasting flexible finish resulting in there being no flaking or peeling. Good preparation is key to a good finish. To have an excellent result you must begin with a clean door free to any dirt, grease, grime and mildew. As Polytrol work by saturating deep down into the surface, if you have any wax or polish applied to the door, this will also need to be removed before application of Polytrol can begin. I see from past posts some say they have used Polytrol to good effect, whereas others have had disasters, (e.g. applying late in the day, before moisture settles on it). 5) Land Rover paint work looks as good as new

Martin Lewis: What the Autumn Statement means for you – including wages, benefits, pensions, ISAs, national insurance and more This Land Rover’s body work had lost its shine and was in need of a little help! The car is a much loved possession, but had sadly lost its beautiful finish due to UV rays, dirt and pollution. Clean the surface with warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly or use an appropriate solvent (follow manufacturer’s instructions). Leave the surface to dry for a minimum of 24 hours.

Using Polytrol on plastic, gelcoat, tiles, painted surfaces etc. This surprised me as its generic description is for use on " gelcoat, plastic, metal and other surfaces ", rather than specifically ageing paintwork. I think you're right, JeepersCreepers, prep is everything - it took longer than painting! I also recommend a decent brush. I also think you're right in that it may be one of those regular jobs - oh well! Hopefully it'll do me for a few years. Clean Up Scrub the solution on to the surface and allow it to stand for 10-15 minutes then rinse thoroughly. When someone arrives at your home, your front door is one of the first things that they’ll see. A tired, faded front door can make even the most beautiful of homes seem a little neglected. After this, it’s time to wipe off any excess product with a clean, lint-free cloth. Leave it to dry Anoth customer achieved impressive results on their moped with Polytrol. They just wiped it on with a lint-free cloth, left it to work and then wiped off the excess. The Polytrol brings out the pigment from within the surface and leaves it looking good as new! Alan, I used polytrol on our last boat. The paint, blue, had lost all shine and was chalky? I applied a coat of polytrol and was amazed by the result. The gleam returned and the boat looked very good. What suprised me was that it lasted for a good while, well over six months. It can be washed without it coming off and when we sold the boat after I think we had reapplied polytrol three times it still looked good. I must stress that the paint we coated was fairly good but had lost all its shine until we tried this. The only thing I don't know is how it may effect any later repainting work. Anyway I would happily use again if required. Cheers , Ian .
