Description

I'm beginner player (around 1200 ELO rapid) and I found this book to be very good in learning tactics. What that means is that you're never really finished and end up playing over the exercises many times. He explains all the basic concepts, and provides you with a huge amount of exercises for each theme and each chess piece.

They allow you to find solutions for puzzles that might have stumped you otherwise, in the same way that grouping puzzles by tactical motifs present might. n\nThis one is similar in both concept and appearance to Frank Erwich’s "},{"attributes":{"italic":true,"bold":true,"link":"https://www. White initiates a combination that includes deflection and a pin; Black has no choice but to part with his rook to avoid checkmate.Chess Exercises for Beginners is a very good first puzzle book, and people well past the proper use of the term "beginner" can get some serious use out of it. White's pawn sacrifice blocks the f4-b8 diagonal and the black king was unable to remain within the square of the passed pawn as it marched towards promotion.

Not tactical themes, but less leading themes like "defense and counter" or "endgames" and are gradually more difficult. Thought this book cover chess introduction and some endgames, 90% of the book's contents are tactics problems. I can personally vouch for it and say that I am now a sharper tactician than I was before I started the book and a better chess player overall. The most frequent opportunities to give perpetual check are based on sacrifices that smash open the protection of the castled king. By far and away, the quickest and most effective way to improve your chess performance is to increase your tactical skill so that at a glance you are able to see the typical mating patterns and material-winning tactical motifs that so often decide a game.

Sharpen your tactics: 1125 brillant sacrifices, combinations and studies by Anatoly Lein and Archangelsky. This book starts with hundreds of essential mating positions that train immediate visual recognition; first there are the easier mate in one or two move exercises; then there are exercises for various crucial tactical motifs that must be mastered by any aspiring chess player; these are followed by more demanding positions where these various motifs are often combined. Instinctively I‘m leaning towards the latter approach, but I would hate to spend my precious study time in an inefficient manner. If you are new to the game, check out /r/chessbeginners and before posting here please read our rules: https://www. The end of the book has a chapter with mixed motifs a grab bag of everything deflection, mate in 3, removing the defender, double attack, back rank weakness, opening a file ect. of the thickness of Nunn's 1001 Deadly Checkmates, for example), which it achieves by cramming 12 diagrams onto each page, and is conveniently portable.

This is due its x ray nature; when a more valuable piece moves out of the way of an attack, the attack continues through to a less valuable one. A wonderful mix of various tactical motifs and a great assembly of exercises that really should be in every chess book collection. It just seems strange to me that there's some problems with relatively forcing lines or obvious motifs that I could figure out within a few minutes, and there's others with very quiet moves or sacs that require deep (for me) calculation right next to each other, especially since the problems are supposed to be sorted according to difficulty. But it genuinely might have taken me like an hour of staring at the position before I would even look at a move like that, after eliminating most other possibilities. This book has been my first serious, focused, daily effort to work on my chess (before that it‘s been all Youtube videos, some sporadic online puzzles here and there and occasionally going over master games on chessgames. I was thinking maybe I should start with the beginner's edition of the series instead, but I'm a bit hesitant to do that because I feel like the problems might be too easy.
