Alien 3, Alien Resurrection – TBD (4K release possible in 2024 linked to the FX debut of the in-development Noah Hawley TV series) – N4K The big piece of announcement news today is that Universal Studios Home Entertainment has set Paul Thomas Anderson’s excellent and Best Picture-nominated film Licorice Pizza for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 5/17. The Digital version is already available (including 4K), though there are no current plans for a physical 4K Ultra HD release. Extras on the Blu-ray will include camera tests, a deleted scene, a Fat Bernie’s Commercial, and a Behind-the-Scenes featurette. You can see the cover artwork at left and also below.

Marking the first 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release from both MVD and 88 Films, Drive arrives in a new 4K transfer sourced from a 4K scan of the original camera negative. This looks to be the same transfer used on MVD’s previous Blu-ray release of the film, although this time the transfer is opened up to a 3840x2160 resolution aided by Dolby Vision HDR. Overall, this is the best the film has ever looked at home, pulling as much depth and clarity out of the source as possible. As mentioned previously, the aesthetic of the film can be a bit flat, with primaries usually looking muted and everything looking a bit soft. But the HEVC (H.265) codec handles it all capably, which is a delight to see from a debut 4K release. It is shot to absolute perfection, steeped in imagery, fable and mythology, and bathed in a sweeping, emotionally tangible torrent of pulses and beats; modern yet 80s-styled electro-pop enhancing the experience in much the same way that Daft Punk did on Tron: Legacyand that The Chemical Brothers did for Hanna. No Time to Die** ( US/ US Limited Edition Gift Set/ UK/ UK Limited Edition Gift Set) – 12/21/21 – REVIEW – N4K, DV, DA Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – 2-Movie Collection (Lara Croft: Tomb Raider & Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life) ( US/UK) – 6/1/21 – N4K (first film only), DV All of the supplements from the MVD Rewind Collection are intact here, though as seems to be the case recently, their timings can vary by a secondThe movie was sourced from a 2KDI. I've personally only seen two movies on 4K that actually look really good coming from a 2K source and that didn't have upscale ringing and other issues. One was Zero Dark Thirty and the other was Eastern Promises from Kino Lorber. That's actually the best 2KDI transfer I've ever seen. This is the 3rd best for sure. There's no upscale ringing, no issues at all really concerning how it was upscaled. Whoever did the upscaling really knows what they're doing, this is how all 2KDI's should look. The only way I could tell it was a 2KDI was by the resolution. It's not as sharp as a 4K. It's as simple as that, but that's how it should be. Second Sight! whatever you're doing here, always upscale like this in the future, please. It's perfectly done. Pioneer UHD drives are now supported more info about that will be coming from the developer and once the info is out i will update stuff here

Heavy Metal: Limited Edition 3-Movie Collection** (Steelbook – includes Heavy Metal 2000 on Blu-ray) ( US/UK/ FR) – 4/19/22 (4/20/22 in France) – REVIEW – N4K, DV, DAThe Classic Christmas Specials Collection (Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, and Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town) ( US/UK) – 11/1/22 – N4K and/or HDR, warms up considerably in the long outdoor sequences, where some of the primaries are extremely striking and beautifully vivid. HDR Original Theatrical Cut (HD; 1:39:46) seems to have fixed the aspect ratio issue that was on display on the MVD Visual release, but Citizen Kane: 80th Anniversary Collector's Edition Box Set (UK only) ( US release from Criterion on 11/23/ UK box set) – 12/13/21 – N4K, DV Stripes (only available in Columbia Classics 4K: Vol. 2) ( US/UK) – 10/12/21 (delayed from 9/14) – N4K, DA
