Description

With true 1:1 magnification and an equivalent 46mm focal length, this close-up lens is perfect for a wide range of subjects as well as macro. You can capture beautiful portraits, landscapes, wedding shots, products, food and just about any subject suited to a standard focal width prime lens.

The XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR has two switches on the lens barrel: one is to turn optical image stabilization off or on. The other is to limit focusing distance to “Full,” “0. 5 meters to infinity” and from “0.25 to 0.5 meters.” Performance

At 1:1 focus (which the specification implies the lens does) at f8, presuming the lens does not change angle of view, depth of field is unlikely to be more than about 1mm in front of and 1mm behind the focus point..

The lens is fantastic to use, having fast, responsive AF and a great feel to the controls. The layout balances perfectly with the camera body. Not only is this the only Fujifilm X Mount prime to currently offer optical image stabilisation, allowing users to shoot intricate details and close-ups five stops slower than would otherwise be possible, the lens also features a floating focus system with two focus groups.

Conclusion and Recommendation

A nice little add-on (quite literally) by Fuji is the fact that it’s compatible with the 1.4x (XF1.4X TC WR) and 2.0x Teleconverter (XF2X TC WR) – effectively turning it into a telephoto macro. Looking at central sharpness first, we find the results are excellent at f/2.8, becoming outstanding at f/4 and maintain an excellent level from f/5.6 to f/16. Sharpness is still very good at f/22. The lens is constructed predominantly of a high grade plastic exterior, though I’d imagine the interior construction uses metals extensively. The lens is very tightly assembled, and has no flex anywhere on the body. The 80mm is an internally focusing lens, and as such, it stays constant length throughout the focusing range. The exterior feel is very similar to that of the Fuji 55-200mm lens, with the broad rubber focus ring and plastic construction. The use of plastics does help keep the weight below what it would have been otherwise, but the lens is still fairly hefty at 750g. The Fuji 80 Macro has a smooth plastic exterior With these considerations in mind, it’s time to take a look at how Fujifilm’s latest macro prime, the XF 80mm f/2.8, stands up against one of its best telephoto portrait offerings, the XF 90mm f/2, with a specific focus on their characteristics for portrait work.

Since telephoto lenses can also be used for sports and landscape work, let’s take a look at how they perform at a longer distance as well. Keep in mind that the 90mm examples are more magnified than those from the 80mm because I took them from the exact

The top plate features two precision-milled aluminum dials, giving the camera a premium feel and allowing users to easily adjust the shutter speed and exposure compensation while maintaining focus on taking a picture. The Exposure Compensation Dial now has the C position for exposure compensation up to ±5 stops. The new X-E3 is also equipped with an Auto mode selector lever for selecting the fully-automatic Advanced SR Auto mode where the camera can automatically select the optimum settings for a given scene. I have some questions and comments: this lens on a 24MP Fuji X-T2 seems to outresolve or resolve very similarly to the Sony FE 90mm f/2.8 Macro G OSS mounted on 42MP Sony Alpha A7R II. Furthermore, it is much more planar than the above lens. The lens is made up of 16 elements in 12 groups, including one aspherical lens, one Super extra-low dispersion (ED) lens and three additional ED lenses. The purpose of Fujifilm’s ED lenses is to reduce chromatic aberrations, while delivering clear colour reproduction, impressive sharpness and high contrast.

The lens handles pretty well on Fuji cameras with a grip, so X-T1/2 and X-H1 owners will have no issues at all. Those with the X-T20 or X-E cameras will want to use one of the accessory grips for longer use, as it’s a bit unwieldy without the grip. On my X-T20, I used the metal hand grip exclusively. The lens felt well balanced with the Fujifilm X-T2 with which it was supplied; whereas a brief spell of shooting with the X-E3 resulted in the lens/body combination feeling a little unbalanced and rather front-heavy. Fujinon XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro – Autofocus If this 1,200×900 pixel crop is about 6" (15cm) wide on your screen, then the complete image printed at this same extreme magnification would be about 21 × 31" (1.7 × 2.6 feet or 50 × 80 cm).For less money, the B+W 62mm 010 is an excellent filter, as are the multicoated version and the basic multicoated Hoya filters, but the Hoya HD3 is the toughest and the best. Here we have a lens that can only be used with Fuji cameras, so in that sense it’s similar to MfT optics - they’re constrained not just by imaging circle, but by mount. The same is not tru the other way- via adapters you can use lenses designed for the 35mm imaging circle (and others - I have a 50-200 four thirds lens for example). You do lose the convenience of fast autofocus, but that often is not a shortcoming (or indeed shortcut) on many of these lenses. Their optical performance is also often similar to native glass. But there’s not a fair difference in price- it’s incomparable and it seems unlikely to be accountable to manufacturing cost.
