Description

Misticismo e avventura si mescolano ancora un volta in un thriller religioso, il nuovo romanzo di Simon Toyne. Il pericolo è imminente: qualcuno vuole scatenare l'apocalisse. The Tower takes place on the day of the opening of the World Tower in New York City. The World Tower – not to be confused with the World Trade Center, located nearby – is the tallest building in the world, and to celebrate its dedication, there is going to be a party on the very tippy-top, with the builder, the mayor, the governor, the senator, a congressman, some guy from the United Nations…well, you get the picture. The only character worth mentioning is the governor, simply because he meets a young lady at the party and falls instantly, deeply in love, a relationship that is stunningly fake, yet does not even make the top-ten list of dumb things in this book. Another Stern target is “Women’s Lib.” That’s what he calls it. Women’s Lib. Stern is so retrograde, so struggling with the concept of women in the workplace, and whether or not they are wearing brassieres, that it’s not even insulting).

Ho letto questo romanzo in poco tempo catturata completamente dalla storia e dal ritmo adrenalinico con cui si sviluppa!

Jade Marlow is a former FBI agent, who left because of his nonconformity to bureaucracy standards but the FBI and other organizations hire him to find criminals that others couldn't, no matter what tactics were needed. The head person, a man named Wotan, considered him, the best despite his abrasive behavior with others, because of what Jade had done to get the person who had taken his daughter and killed her. He told the team to give Jade, full support and free rein, to get the job done. Yes, The Tower is based on Post Mortem, the title of the first novel in Kate London’s Metropolitan series.

Allander, our serial killer, is scarier than scary. But not so much when you realize his fear of women coupled with a large dose of oedipal complex. And ugh those monologues! This book sounds like a straightforward science-fiction tale, in which Day of the Triffids style plants consume buildings and cast out deadly spores. In fact, it reads more like a fable about friendship, loyalty and bravery, beautifully told in the voice of a lonely young boy struggling to make sense of all that is going on around him - from the extraordinary events he sees from his window, to his mother's illness. Taking place in a believable urban, multicultural environment that will be familiar to many young readers, Polly Ho-Yen's debut is an impressively moving and thought-provoking story that will touch children and adults alike. Within a matter of weeks [of joining the police] I was writing - not for publication, but because I just had to get down on paper the world I encountered: its complexity, laughter, loyalty, the moral conflicts and the dangers that were not only physical," she said. Nine days before the fall, Hadley and Adama visit the Stoddards, Younes and Farah's neighbour. Mrs Stoddard accuses him of having keyed her car. The officers then visit Younes; only an old lady is in, and she speaks no English. Hadley persuades her to give them entry; Farah arrives, and Adama sees them talk from a distance. Younes arrives, but flees.

Also collaborated on the art for four story arcs of The Dark Tower, the comic book series published by Marvel Comics. The first two novels in the series, The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger and The Dark Tower II: The Drawing of the Three, were produced on audio cassette by New Audio Library (NAL) in 1988 and 1989 respectively. The Waste Lands, The Dark Tower Part III, was produced on audio cassette by Penguin Highbridge Audio in 1991. Each of these early editions was narrated by the author. The Waste Lands includes musical accompaniment throughout. Simply put, Stern appears to have no idea how a thriller is constructed, how to properly modulate tension, or have the ability to distinguish between A-plot, B-plot, and stuff that should be excised completely. Not so hot. The Tower ranks up there as the most grizzly, gory, and disturbing. Atlasia was abused/raped as a little boy, and his mind was damaged much more than his body. The author went to extraordinary lengths to describe bloody scenes and the over-the-top horrible abuse Atlasia inflicts on victims.

Got a question?

DS Collins—described by The Guardian 's Hollie Richardson as "a heavy-sighing, perma-frown primetime detective" [7] and an "outlier and an outsider" [8]—is a Detective Sergeant from the Directorate of Special Investigations. [7] The Telegraph suggested that she displayed a "rigid attention to detail at work that masks a sadness in her personal life, which seems to be represented by a signature anorak that is the colour of a dying autumn leaf". [9] Ed Cumming of The Independent, summarises her as "a single, gay, childless cop: it’s made to look like a thankless gig". [10]⁸ The fourth arc, The Dark Tower: Fall of Gilead, began publication on May 13, 2009. A hardcover volume containing all 6 issues, as well as the Sorcerer One-Shot was released on February 2, 2010. These days, Gregg Hurwitz (he’s since dropped the middle name on his covers) is best known as the author of the Orphan X thriller series (coming soon to a movie theatre near you, produced by and starring Bradley Cooper). I read the original book, really liked it, and hope to continue with the series soon. The adage is ‘knowledge is power.’ The monks of the Citadel have amassed a library of the entire world’s knowledge which is off limits to all but the members of a particular rank of the hierarchy, and certainly closed to the outside world. The hierarchy wields such power that there is no conflict or strife or disease within the confines of the monastery. All are devoted to The Sacrament even though only the top echelon knows or understands what it is. Once the sacrament is released into the world, circumstances change. A mysterious plague is unleashed and all available resources are engaged to recover it. Allegiances shift like desert sand leaving the reader to wonder who the good guys are. In true fashion of the genre, readers are given the ah-ha at the end. And it's a good thing they did, because you couldn't get a TV movie of the week out of this book. All the Towering Inferno plot elements are here -- tallest building in the world; builder's son-in-law uses substandard wiring; governor, ambassadors, senators at the dedication; breeches-bouy rescue -- but the vast majority of the book is spent ... talking. And thinking.
