Catchy tracks that combine late 70s/early 80s neo-psychedelic music with modern pop and dance tracks make for a consistent set of tracks, with great meaningful lyrics (something that seems to be lacking elsewhere in today's music), great instrument playing (with solos and extended instrumental sections reminiscent of early Pink Floyd - Of Moons, Birds and Monsters is a stand out track on this front) and a few popular tracks to make it still appeal to the masses. In my opinion, Oracular Spectacular is one of the best albums of 2008, the melodies are catchy, beats are great, it's just awesome synth-pop. The Youth" both warns of and champions the then-young adult Millennial generation with its myriad changes -- changes the older generations, true to form, viewed (often correctly) as inherently destructive. One of the most influential albums of the '00's - it went on to sell over 2 million copies worldwide and was certified Gold or Platinum in over 10 major territories, including double platinum in UK, Platinum in Australia, Gold in France and Platinum in the USA. This is the first band in a while that truly manage to produce perfect pop and remain effortlessly cool. The overall sound has been treated, not the usual FX pedals of distortion or phasing, but the whole sound has been made to seem as if a radio with interference. The successor to 2008's Oracular Spectacular and 2010 s Congratulations, MGMT finds Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser continuing to push themselves to expand the boundaries of modern pop music.Definitely a stand out album of the 00s (and definitely a unique band) and should be up there with the likes of Green Day's American Idiot, The Killers' Hot Fuss and Radiohead's Kid A in the best alt rock albums of the decade.

Put simply, Oracular Spectacular is a triumph of modern music, certainly, but also the psychedelic genre.This is that rare thing an album of potent musical quality that provides instantly catchy but durable pop music(I loved this album from the start and it's still getting better with every play). even if some of the sounds and vocals, like on "Electric Feel," take considerable cues from the likes of the Bee Gees and The Doors. I always trust my ears over "remastered from the analog tapes blah blah blah" For all we know, it was remastered from the tapes, cut to digital, and then cut to vinyl.
