Follow the first three steps below, then decide whether you want to use dual forms or nail forms (or skip forms completely!) and follow the rest of the instructions (and tutorials) accordingly. If you love a long-lasting manicure that doesn’t chip and stays put for weeks-on-end, (regular polish, who?) acrylics and gel aren’t your only two options. Polygel is a hybrid of the two, offering the best of both worlds. You get the ease of application of a gel (it also cures the same way, under an LED light), but with the durability of an acrylic, explains Syreeta Aaron, a professional nail expert. Depending on how you can apply it, it can also be used simply to add color to a nail, like gel or regular polish. You can also apply it on top of a form that will allow you to achieve your desired nail length and shape, she adds. The other nice thing? This isn’t a salon-only type situation. There are plenty of great polygel nail kits available for at-home use. Duh. Use just one tube if you want a solid color all over, or grab a few different colors to create ombré nails or a French manicure design. Syreeta Aaron is a nail expert and educator for LeChat Nails, who is experienced in all types of salon and at-home nail care, including polygel nails. Why choose polygel nails over acrylics or a gel mani? The experts share a number of benefits to a poly mani, as long as they are applied and removed correctly of course.Finish and live your life, or continue on to one of the following two tutorials: dual forms or nail forms. Wanting to grow your natural nails? Polygel may be the way to go. "It is amazing for aiding the natural nails in their growth. With proper upkeep and maintenance of your nails, you can expect to see an increased speed of growth and length retention within 2-3 applications," Fagan tells me. Plus, they can last for two to four weeks before needing maintenance or removal. Are polygel nails safe? Be sure to always following the application tips for whatever polygel kit or brand you go with. Removing polygel nails at home If you are obsessed with the look of acrylic, dip powder or gel manicures, but hate to risk damaging your nails, your new manicure hero has arrived: polygel. This gel-acrylic hybrid provides the best of both worlds, so you no longer have to choose between nail style and nail safety. So, let’s get into what actually makes the polygel formula so unique. What are polygel nails?

A sculpting brush (with a spatula). “You want to use a designated gel sculpting brush that has a square angle tip — think of it as a paint brush," Gonzalez-Longstaff says. As with any polish, think about the types of manis you usually go for. Do you love nude, natural shades? Bold glitter finishes? Nail art? There are options for anyone and everyone out there. We especially love the range of nudes in the Markartt Poly Gel Nail Kit, which is also an expert-recommended brand. We also love that the JEWHITNEY Poly Extension Gel Nail Kit comes in 28 polish shades, if you’re looking for variety. Extension Types It's beneficial in providing a durable and safe means to growing and maintaining natural nails," says Fagan. "It can be used as an overlay on the natural nails or for creating nail extensions," she continues. Clip off any length. If you used polygel to create nail enhancements, use nail clippers from your manicure set to trim off the extra length. Polygel is a perfect option for anyone with softer nails, but not recommended for anyone with more brittle nails. “It's a great in-between for those who have good natural nails but want a little bit more stability and a little bit more strength, without the abrasiveness of acrylics,” she says.

POLYTOPS ® fixings are plastic top pins, nails and screws manufactured to a high UK standard using top grade polymer and the highest grade steel, that’s A4 marine grade stainless steel. Scrape off the residue. Once the acetone has softened the product underneath, use a cuticle pusher to gently scrape the remaining residue off. Don't force it! Repeat steps three and four until the product has loosened up enough to gently scrape away. Dual forms or nail forms, depending on your preference. Both are a shell that is placed over the nail to sculpt. One of the biggest differences between the two is that dual forms are multi-use and nail forms are single-use. Tinu says, "It is a hybrid nail polish formula originally created for nail technicians, but now available for at-home use." Also known as extender gel, it is "a malleable gel formula that can be moulded to your desired shape. Extender gel is particularly user-friendly because it doesn’t set until it is cured—meaning you can have as many goes as you want nailing your look," adds Tinu. The benefits of polygel nails

A polygel nail kit. There are many great kits available online with a variety of color options; choose a top-rated one that works for your budget and style. POLYTOPS ® pins have a coloured plastic topped head which is made from tough UPVC polymer and there is a range of different coloured moulded heads to choose from. Similar to acrylic, polygel can be used to sculpt, fill in or extend nails. However, there are differences, including the fact that polygel is significantly lighter than acrylic (though it's just as strong). It's also different than a dip manicure, which is equivalent to granulated acrylic. We only use A4 marine grade stainless steel in our nails and pins which means they do not suffer with corrosion and therefore don’t leave rust stains unlike less materials like A2 or zinc plated stainless steel that are supplied despite this very well know problem with corrosion All our POLYTOPS ® UPVC nails are made from A4 marine grade stainless steel which guarantees against corrosion from salt water or chlorine.

Choose the dual or nail forms that fit your fingers. This is an optional step, as you can also overlay the polygel on natural nails. If you do to use a dual form, your kit will likely come with different sizes. Some shapes are curvier or flatter than others, but try to match the form with your nail accordingly. "For a more natural nail look, match the dual form to the nail bed and cuticle line,” Gonzalez-Longstaff advises. Elle is a celebrity nail artist in New York City and Los Angeles. Her clients include Jennifer Lopez, Charlize Theron, and Blake Lively and has extensive experience working with polygel nails. When properly applied and removed, PolyGel manicures are a safe [option] for your nails. One may also enjoy that there are no smells, such as monomer, released into the air during application, something which many may have otherwise found to be an unpleasant experience during an acrylic application," says Fagan. How to apply polygel nails Please note: Saltwater mist can travel 50+ miles inland from the coast so most places in Britain can be subject to rust stain corrosion if the wrong fastener is used for outside fittings. In addition, heavily polluted areas can affect zinc-coated or galvanized steel so the risk of rust stain is greater in urbanised areas like cities and bigger towns. Instead of dual forms, you can use paper nail forms to serve as the base that you sculpt on top of. With these, you can blend better at the cuticle and create more of a custom fit, but they're more difficult for beginners.
