Marlow, April 21, 2022 – The new Sennheiser SPORT True Wireless brings superior audio performance for fitness enthusiasts and athletes no matter how intense the workout. Its unique Adaptable Acoustic feature also offers a choice of open and closed ear adapters, allowing athletes to tailor their listening experience to their sport. Thanks to its secure, customisable fit, the SPORT True Wireless is ready for even the most active challenges - all with the unique Sennheiser sound. The SPORT True Wireless doesn't just stand up to the physical challenges. With a battery life of 9 hours, and another 18 hours with the charging case, it offers uncompromising performance to go the distance. Although it’s a bit fiddly to keep swapping ear tips, and a faff to find somewhere to safely store the pair that isn’t currently in use, this sounded like a clever solution to the common problem of trying to balance awareness and sound quality during exercise. The app also lets you adjust the on-ear control layout, tweak the in-ear sidetone (how much you can hear your own voice on calls), and access a three-band EQ. Aside from its reliance on three bands instead of the usual five, the EQ delivers weak results. Boosting the bass fader to its maximum level, for example, only subtly increases the low-end and causes the digital signal processing (DSP) to step in. Here, the DSP compresses the signal and affects the maximum volume output. It's a little baffling that an audio powerhouse like Sennheiser has among the worst in-app EQs we’ve tested.

Sennheiser SPORT True Wireless Review: Incredible sound Sennheiser SPORT True Wireless Review: Incredible sound

The Sport True Wireless headphones last nine hours on a charge, and there are a further 18 hours in the case. Nine hours is impressive and up there with the best you’ll find on truly wireless buds, no doubt helped by the larger size of the Sennheiser headphones. Are The Sennheiser Sport True Wireless Headphones Worth It? The Lows on the sport sound very good. While there is a boost, it’s to ensure that you can still hear them during your workout. They do occasionally crowd the mix, but for the most part, they do a good job of adding impact to the sound. You aren’t going to get the most detail out of the low end, but you will get presence and energy. Mids The highs on the SPORT are pretty standard sounding and they don’t provide too much detail. However, they also don’t detract from the sound in any way. I rarely heard them distort or become harsh, and sometimes heard some surprisingly nice reverb tails and spatial details. Like everything else, the SPORT sculpts the highs to emphasize more essential ranges for the core sound, which is important. The Jaybird Vista 2 have an even better water rating than the Jabra Elite 7 Active and feature an equally compact body; however, Jaybird's top buds have wing tips to ensure the wireless headphones stay in place better.

Battery life & charging

Now when it comes to battery life. The sennheiser Sport have decent battery life relative to their overall size. The Sennheiser Sport have an advertised combined battery life of 27 hours. The earbuds themselves can go for up to 9 straight hours… which is good for marathon runners or even retail workers, and the case can supply 2 additional charges. And the base CX’s also have this same battery life performance.

The ergonomic design of the SPORT True Wireless was developed precisely for this purpose. The earbuds can be customised with a choice of ear adapters in three sizes and four different ear fins to withstand any workout. With an IP54 rating, the SPORT True Wireless is dust and splash resistant and can also easily withstand sweat, runs in the rain, and even workouts at the beach. D) Offers some level of situational awareness – Thanks to the 'open' and 'closed' ear adaptor system, the SPORT True Wireless not only lets in more noise when required but can also isolate you from your surroundings if that's what you want. The sports-oriented touches that Sennheiser has given to the CX Sports could well make them the ideal workout headphones, with an attractive and rugged design and a comfortable fit. Of course, that lime green design won't appeal to everyone, but we liked it. As you can see, the Sennheiser SPORT True Wireless is this close [holds two fingers up very close to each other] to be the perfect headphones for running and exercise. Should it not be for the faff of having to change ear tips (and the silly charging case situation), it might even reach the top of our running headphones guide. All in all, the HD 250BT are a superb budget buy – and a great way to experience what Sennheiser is capable of, without breaking the bank.

What is the difference between Sennheiser Sport True Wireless and Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 3?

So in my personal experience, the fins are necessary for a secure fit, but I wasn’t able to find a pair that were comfortable. On the like-it-less side… the size of these was just too big for a woman’s ear, in my opinion. Even with the smallest tips and fins, these were not comfortable for me personally, even for short stints. Other with bigger ears, or the guys out there might find they have a different experience.

A secure, tight fit is optimal for exercise and running, but not so much for long-time wear, as I found out during my tests. It's the same as when companies say their clothing is 100% waterproof and 100% breathable. There is no such thing; it's either completely waterproof or completely breathable. Something's got to give. This mode barely let in any external sounds, and it increased bass levels, which made it more difficult to hear what was happening outside. Sennheiser would have been better off employing the CX Plus’ Transparent Hearing mode. Sennheiser Sport True Wireless review: Special features and app In short I’m not going to recommend these unless you’re a Sennheiser loyalist who has bigger ears, and who’s looking for better than average sports headphones audio quality. If you’ve evaluated these, you may find that for you, the pros could outweigh the cons, but for me, because they’re so uncomfortable, it doesn’t matter how good they sound: I can’t wear them. The open ear adapters in combination with the Aware EQ settings help to reduce body-borne noise and allow some outside sounds to enter for better situational awareness. In this mode, runners hear fewer distracting noises such as their own heartbeat or footsteps and more of their surroundings, blending their favourite exercise playlist with sounds of nature or the city while improving awareness. Those who prefer their own music in noisy gyms and don't want to be distracted by the busy environment will find peace of mind with the closed ear adapter and Focus EQ settings.

Sennheiser Sport TWS Review: Great Sound, One Flaw Sennheiser Sport TWS Review: Great Sound, One Flaw

But ultimately, the Sennheiser Sport are better used with just one primary device. Unlike with other earbuds out there that can be connected to 2 devices at the same time, or that can hot swap between devices in their respective eco system, or other earbuds that will jump from one device to another, if another device asks to pair with them… if you want to switch devices with these earbuds, you either gotta do that through their app, or you gotta put them in pairing mode every single time. So these aren’t the most power user friendly earbuds out there. This works well in theory, since you physically alter the hardware to change the sound, so you get a more natural sound than if you only tweaked it in the Sennheiser app. Of course, you can – and should – change the sound profile in the Sennheiser app to match the ear tips you have applied; but even so, the buds will naturally cancel/let in more sound. If you need to put them into pairing manually, just push and hold the touchpad on both earbuds for three seconds and you’ll hear a voice say, “pairing”. Wanting to test them out on something more treble-y, we listened to M7 by Seba & Ulrich Schnauss. Clattering synths and sonorous chimes had a brilliant level of clarity, with a sweet tone throughout. The velour earpads are plush, generously sized, and very, very comfortable. The headband isn't quite as comfy, but it doesn't exert undue pressure on your head, and the headphones are fairly light, making them well-suited to long listening sessions.
