Ideally, I’d like pix of the ground’s terraces and stands empty, or on-pitch action with a good, illustrative view of terraces in the background. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item. Steve also looks at grounds that no longer exist as football venues, such as Third Lanark’s Cathkin Park, Clyde’s Shawfield Park, and Falkirk’s Brockville! We really enjoyed the book and liked reminiscing about grounds we’ve been to and how they’ve changed over time. This book on Scottish football grounds is just about ok in that it has old photos of grounds but little or no background to each Club or their Support at the time of the photo.

Another bizarre image involves around 100 fans sitting in the skeleton of a new stand at Tannadice with no visible means of accessing the area in which they are sitting. The accompanying text explained something I was unaware of, in that their ground, Shielfield Park, is named after William Shiel Dods, a local butcher who gave the club the land to build on.He is a cobwebbed and dusty expert on newspaper and magazine archives and creates books, mainly drawing upon the extensive material in the DC Thomson archive.

The runaway success of 2018’s best-selling Lifted Over The Turnstiles proved there are few things that stir the pride of a football fan more than photos of the most iconic buildings they have ever known – their club’s home ground. The book celebrates great players, highlights great games and achievements, lesser known feats, quirks and circumstances and puts everything in the context of the team. Delve into vintage photos of Scottish football stadiums and crowds that have lain unseen, in archives and rarely accessed collections, for decades. A fantastic range of images, supported by some interesting newspaper articles and informative text, quickly dispensed any fears of a lament to times past. There will be countless photographs of Ewood Park covering the black and white era you’re looking for.Apart from women in the crowd scenes, the other notable absentee is roofing which, along with decent toilet facilities, catering and safety barriers, all appear to be non-essential items in many of the grounds in the photos. Three years in the making, Steve has brought together a fabulous selection of archive images, some never-before-seen or have lain unseen for decades in the archive.
