Description

We designed our forward facing bookshelf to include a small platform at the top, where you child can put figurines or display different toys. A Montessori front-facing bookshelf is a little more difficult to build without knowing what it is. The Montessori toy shelf complements the bookshelf perfectly, showcasing toys in a way that encourages independence in children. Made from 1/2″ and 1/4″ plywood, the final dimensions are 81 1/4″ wide, 36″ tall, and 15″ deep. The same tools are needed for this project as for the bookshelf. Do you want all wood? Some of these bookshelves have fabric slings to hold books instead of wooden shelving – like this gray and white shelf and this colorful shelf.

Now, it’s time to attach the shelves to the frame by positioning them evenly spaced between the top and bottom pieces. Apply wood glue along the edges of the shelves where they meet the sides of the frame. Secure the shelves in place with screws. This style of book shelf is very popular with those following the Montessori style of child raising and playroom decorating. A Montessori front-facing bookshelf is designed for a child’s books to have the cover facing out toward them, so they can see it and recognize it. The owner, Vitaliy, is passionate about sharing his decade-long experience and expertise with fellow DIYers, offering plans designed to make your project a success.Do you want space for other things? This shelf has traditional shelves on the bottom and front facing bookshelves on top! If desired, apply a coat of paint or stain to the bookshelf and allow it to dry completely before use. If you are looking for a more unique shelf – this one has really pretty cut outs on the sides for a light & airy look. Luke loves books, he just loves them! He has a full bookshelf in his room, but we wanted to give him additional book storage in the loft.

The forward-facing bookshelf is ideal for kids’ rooms, nurseries, preschools, and playrooms, making it easy for children to see and choose their desired books. Position the top and bottom pieces onto the glued edges of the side piece so that they form a 90-degree angle with the side piece. Secure the pieces together with screws. This front-facing bookshelf is the perfect height for toddlers to be able to reach their own books and bring them to you. Customize it for your kids by painting or staining it to match your playroom decor! How to build a Montessori front-facing bookshelf One of the essential elements you’ll find in a Montessori environment is a well-designed, child-sized shelf that provides easy access to learning materials.Forward facing bookshelf ideas offer the great advantage that even toddlers can arrange their books and young children can group the books by colors or some other way. Front facing bookshelves are a great method of displaying the books and children can find easily a specific book. Instead of leaving empty walls in the children’s room, you can install forward facing bookshelves at different height suitable for the age and height of your kids. Forward facing bookshelves are a simple way to arrange book organizers for kids. On a typical bookshelf the books are usually organizes with their side and it is difficult for a child to find a book. Front facing bookshelves organize the books with their cover facing forward, kids can easily recognize them and books can be chosen by the pictures on the cover. As with all furniture in a home with children, make sure you secure this item to the wall after you build it. Our child adores this National Geographic book about animals and his collection of “This Little” books. Another perk of this shelving system is that it's easy for me to rotate out books and update the display to coincide with the new season or upcoming holiday. Because the books' covers face out, it's clearer to me which titles we've been reading for a while, and when it's time to freshen up the selection. If I'm tired of staring at the same book covers day after day, my daughter undoubtedly is as well. This is a shelving unit that has books displayed with the covers facing forward. It’s the perfect height for kiddos and allows them to really see what books they have available to choose from.
