There haven't been many, but I have set off explosive traps triggered by the monkeys. Or at least, the trigger was nearby, and I never found it, before or after the trap went off. I always shoot them. For one, I don't want to have to listen to the clapping. Two, I don't want it attracting enemies. They're to creep you out and sometimes alert enemies. Like in Hubris Comics, there's one right inside the door that will alert almost every ghoul in the place to you. I've had them both go off alerting nearby enemies by noise, and also act as motion sensor triggers for nearby traps (both makeshift bombs and gun traps). And some, are just there and do nothing, just to mess with you.
