If you give the potion to either Nepheli or Dung Eater, their quests end immediately and you won't be able to get their rewards. Towns won’t be full of villagers, merchants and the like. They will be ruins, dungeons and exploration hubs. As Souls there is no vast population of NPCs. Buy the crafting kit off the merchant in the church (as he tells you to in basically his first line of dialogue ) and then you can buy recipe books from him and other merchants. rjejr I would still say keep trying to go south - if you can get by the big guy with the bow/arrow (he goes down easily enough if you just run around his legs on your horsey). Or I guess just run past him into the fort. The fort itself has quite a few enemies and it'll probably be pretty tough. There is a boss beyond the fort itself at the end of the peninsula. Hopefully none of this is spoilers but I think it's a good challenge and if you can do it you'll get the skills you need to take you further into the game.
