To add to this, the usage of the various bokeh filters to make the scenes look even brighter was a masterstroke. The first time Celine Dion shows up as herself in the mostly predictable romcom Love Again, she’s handing down icy answers to a room full of reporters asking inane questions about her upcoming concert tour. But our leading man, Rob ( Sam Heughan), music critic for the fictional New York Chronicle, is distracted by some unusual messages he’s been receiving from a mystery texter. Dion chides him for having his phone on and inquires as to whether he’s going to ask her something. Rob fumbles, then pressures the singer to explain some of her esoteric lyrics about love. James C. Strouse’s writing is pretty much the weakest link in ‘Love Again’. The premise is predictable, and the entire plot can be figured out right from the trailer itself. There isn’t any amount of ambiguity or suspense left for the viewer to find out during the climax. It happens with almost all romcoms, but still, there are few that manage to give the viewer something unique to help them remember the film. Sadly, there wasn’t anything like that in ‘Love Again’s writing which will make it memorable for ages. You might just binge it for a bit of feel-good factor a few times whenever you’re feeling low.
