While there had clearly been some battery acid leakage in the K6 battery compartment, only traces remained when I received the items. I cleaned that residue out with a cotton swab, so I think it's fine. Moreover, the LS-P4 includes a built-in speaker, allowing users to listen to their recordings without the need for external devices. The device is compact and portable, making it convenient to carry and use on the go. Arranging files on the device is effected via the Menu button; this calls up a choice of five locations to save recordings: Folder A, B, C, D and E, plus a dedicated Music folder – which all correspond to the subfolder structure that’s displayed when attaching the LS-P1 to a computer.

Having now received the Rode Lavalier Go mic and tried it out for some days, I have to say that I like it. Includes tripod adapter and 1 x rechargeable AAA Ni-MH battery (Note: Internal charging operable only with Olympus rechargeable batteries) Very few mics are good for long-distance recording. The ME66/67 does pretty well because of the high sensitivity and good off-axis rejection. They do not amplify the sound, but they are very sensitive to it. Parabolic are the true long-range mics. In any case, I think both those choices are off the table for Phil given budget and ergonomics. Marc and iveljay, thank you very much for your expert advice. It has given me a lot to think about. A compact unit, the LS-P1 fits well in the hand and is very light. Despite its featherweight payload, the device is well made and doesn’t feel particularly fragile – but the Olympus CS150 Multipurpose Case will be a good investment for anyone prone to dropping things.A tripod attachment is included for additional flexibility. The LS-P4 may also be connected to various system cameras, such as the Olympus OM-D models, using a hot shoe adapter and cable. In reading through the manual, it gradually occurred to me that the mic settings are turned off when an external mic is plugged in. It doesn't say that explicitly, so I was not entirely sure, but I believe you are correct. Both are easy enough to use, the H4 being a bit more intuitive for the casual user. The big advantage of both is that the screen and the controls are far less fiddly than the LS-P4, however the LS-P4 is far more portable and I take a pair everywhere as I can use lightweight clamps to attach them to tree branches, pipes or whatever is to hand and just leave them without the risk of handling noise. Clearly a big shotgun negates some of the foregoing.

Thank you. I'll definitely consider the Zoom products for the future. I bought the LS-P4 because I need to start with something very portable and light in weight, so I can bring it with me without an external mic, and carry it to work in my briefcase. It is also easy to use in the hand to record radio broadcasts. You must have read my mind, because immediately after seeing the recommendation from marcsantacurz about the H4n and H5, I went online and looked at their features and prices. I was immediately wondering about what the H4n Pro had that the previous version did not, and the web descriptions I found were not terribly helpful in answering that question. The information you provided about the pre-amp differences is very important for me to know. Voice balancer (makes smaller voices louder and ensures that louder voices stay below a given level) I switched in the low pass filter on the LS-P4, turned the recording mode to manual, turned recording sensitivity up to maximum, level 30, and did my walk at dawn. Allowing for a frequency spectrum of a full 20Hz-20kHz, the built-in TRESMIC 3 microphone system ensures a rich stereophonic sound capture – irrespective of the environment the LS-P4 is used in.I'm reading about the Zoom products, and why field recording buffs are using them rather than the equivalent products from other manufacturers. It appears that the noise floor of H4n Pro and H5 is low compared to similarly-priced products from other competitors. So, do you want a device that will easily travel everywhere with you, ready to snatch everyday sonic surprises at the press of a button? Or will your recording sessions be more planned affairs, with the aim of making a definitive, quality recording? There’s a good choice of formats, too. The FLAC format offers better than CD quality as half the storage size and you can go down to MP3 if you are worried about eating into the supplied 8GB. It’s easy too As one of the other posters mentioned, most mics, including shotguns, are meant for near-by sounds. Maybe a few feet away, even for shotguns. Something you could get from a boom or an on-camera mic pointed at your subject a few feet away.

LS-P4 | OM SYSTEM - Olympus

Recording “scenes”— both handle 7 types of situations (lecture, conference, music, etc.), the LS-P5 adds two custom scene settings. You can find lots of videos on youtube about people reviewing mics. Look for things like "on-location mic" or "boom mic" or similar to find mics meant to record at a distance. When it gets loud, the capability of handling sound pressure levels (SPL) of up to 120dB without clipping as well as its new 2 mic noise cancelling system comes into play. If a recording was made with levels that were too low, the in-device normalisation allows for boosting the recording volume without distortion – now also for MP3 recordings. Connecting the audio cable allows the audio to be recorded via the camera, and monitored accordingly. Much like “Pro Capture” on recent OM System cameras, the P5 comes with a pre-recording function that can capture 2 seconds of audio before you press “Record.”

The 3 microphone system comprises of 2 premium-quality directional microphones that ensure a rich stereophonic sound capture, and an omni-directional mic at the center which captures all your low frequencies for a fully balanced recording. The LS-P4 can handle up to 120dB of SPL without clipping. For voice recording, the LS-P4 features the latest in microphone noise cancellation, giving you clearer results in noisy environments. Portable design with built-in battery Result far more birds with clear recognisable song than heard before and no noise. Target was a large yew with a rooks colony a few hundred metres behind it. I think that there is a setting for plug in power in the menu, ideally this should be off for your current set-up but shouldn't be a problem if left on.There's no fancy Bluetooth app, and it won’t help you tune your guitar. Instead, every effort has gone into making sure the PCM D-100 captures the best recording possible, whatever the location or the conditions. Preamp circuitry is isolated from its power supply for reduced noise, and levels can be set for each mic. These can be positioned independently too, swiveling 90 through 120 degrees.
