Flavia Domitilla: Vespasian's wife, who, he is chagrined to learn, is a member of the "Liberators," a group of conspirators plotting Claudius's assassination; however in Day of the Caesars, the conspirators have changed their target to Nero, hoping to allow Brittanicus to succeed his father. She also reveals that Julia was faithful to Cato. She kills herself when the coup fails. The Roman army are made aware of Boudica leading a rebellion, where thousands of rebels are joining her to rid the country of the invading Romans. In Londinium there is devastating news. Centurion Macro is amongst those unaccounted for after the massacre at Camulodunum. Has Cato's comrade and friend made his last stand? We know from history what happened: Londinum (London) had to be evacuated. Verulanum (St. Albans) was destroyed. The Ninth Legion was destroyed (the first time); it would be destroyed a second time sixty years later and marched into legend. The Second Legion, once one of the best, never joined the fight. Decianus, the procurator who incited the rebellion, in history successfully flees to Gaul. Scarrow at times likes to create an alternate history branch has a different fate for Decianus. He has also written another series,Revolution, focusing on WellingtonandNapoleon, whose first title,Young Bloods, was published in 2006. The second volume,The Generals, was released on 31 May 2007 and the third volumeFire and Swordwas released in January 2009. Boudica’s rebellion is described in a lot of books but I think this one that describe is it could have been. It was gory, violent, sometime very cruel insurrection, a sort of guerrilla that nearly defeated Rome. This was another awesome novel from Scarrow, who has once again produced an exciting and fast-paced historical fiction read that perfectly envisions the landscape of Roman-occupied England. The Honour of Rome is a great read, and I loved the cool combination of historical and crime fiction elements throughout it.
