Description

The HDMI to DisplayPort Converter provides functionality that is not supported by other adapters that are designed to connect the DisplayPort output of a device and to a display which accepts an HDMI input. The fact that many DP sources can also operate as HDMI sources (hence the existence of passive adapters / cables) is a red herring. Currently a Pharmacy student at the Central University of Venezuela, Arol has had a soft spot for everything tech-related since he was a child.

Our displayport to HDMI adapter is used to convert a digital display port signal to HDMI it allows a PC or device with a displayport output to be connected to a display with a HDMI input.HDMI was first created in 2002 by a consortium of seven companies to begin transitioning video signals from analog to digital. The HDPORT-0054K-CABREV is a HDMI to DisplayPort adapter which allows you to transmit a video signal from a HDMI source (PC etc. A DP to HDMI adapter plugs into a DP socket, and provides a female HDMI socket that your male monitor cable plugs into. DP adds the clock to the video at the sending device; so a DP-receiving device needs to see a clock on the incoming video, HDMI doesn't. However, a DisplayPort output has the ability to detect when it's connected to a HDMI display, and send HDMI signals down the wire to that display.

Some versions of HDMI even have a 10gbps ethernet channel to handle 3D, so the cable is more than audio and video. You can play a DVD in a blu-ray player, but you can’t play a blu-ray disc in a DVD only player because the disc isn’t encoded for it. If the source does not support DP++, then you must use an active converter, which includes additional chips to perform the conversion.

Notice I said "active" adapter--that's the magic word you need to look for when getting an adapter to go from HDMI to DP. This converter is an ideal solution schools, conference rooms, or other work spaces when upgrading to a new monitor or projector. Active adapters use additional chips to make the conversion inside the adapter, regardless of whether the source supports DP++. This answer and the Dell page it links to seem to imply that it's just not possible to go HDMI -> DP, without a very expensive converter box (not just an adaptor). You need an 'active' adapter in this case and all that adapter does is add a clock to the video format and sends it out via DP.

If the answer is “DP controllers can detect they’re talking to an HDMI device and change protocols”, that’s a valid answer. It is not uncommon at all for newer technology to be backwards compatible with older technology to aid in adoption. This is why it's very easy with a simple adapter to go from a DP output on a laptop to a HDMI input monitor because the monitor doesn't care about the clock. Details about the extent of our regulation by the Financial Conduct Authority are available from us on request.

It is also equipped with USB-A port to supply power in the event the HDMI source doesn’t provide enough power.

Among the main differences between HDMI and DisplayPort, there's a particular one that interests us the most: DisplayPort Dual Mode. Please use our Discord server instead of supporting a company that acts against its users and unpaid moderators. My laptop has an HDMI port (as well as USB-A and USB-C), and the monitor has a DisplayPort (unfortunately, no HDMI).If an adapter from A to Z is needed and available it usually means a sufficient number of users have needed it to make producing it a viable project, asking about such a device puts the asker in the group. This is how (mainly) TVs are able to access HD sound and visuals and is done through the use of just one simple HDMI cable.
