Having the villainous murderer a repressed and crazed Catholic priest in modern times brought a new and different kind of monster to the catalog of British horror, and he’s marvelously played by Anthony Sharp. Pete Walker’s House of Mortal Sin follows his familiar theme of institutional hypocrisy—using extortion, sexual perversion, and giallo-esque shock murders to lampoon the church like only Pete Walker can. You might think, in this day and age, that making Catholic priests the subject of your ire is a bit like shooting fish in a barrel, but this is 1976, a very different time. Bernard discovers the bodies of Terry and Vanessa and confronts Meldrum, who claims that Brabazon committed the murders out of love for him.

With a wretched priest on a war path believing himself to be an avenging angel it dives into a pool of religious hypocrisy and mad mental puritan delusion. Having had a crack at the judiciary it was time for Pete Walker to turn his sights on the Catholic Church. And I haven't even mentioned we get another memorable turn from Walker regular Sheila Keith as Sharp's foreboding, eyepatch-wearing housekeeper Miss Brabazon. So I’m scrolling through Arrow’s “leaving soon” section and a bunch of Pete Walker films are there and somehow I didn’t even realize they had been there to begin with?

Much criticism has been leveled against this film for its unabashed attacks on Catholicism, but it's really Walker's trademark amoral approach to filmmaking that elicits a strong urge to take a hot bath after viewing. Images submitted must be in Landscape orientation, as would be seen on the cinema screen, not Portrait. We are aware that there are films on the site that were added when the criteria for the inclusion of locations was very different from today and, as a result, there may be scenes missing from some productions. The jury's still out on House Of Mortal Sin (aka The Confessional), but you can't deny that it's entertaining. Originally Peter Cushing was offered to play Father Xavier Meldrum and at the time there were some rumours that Cushing hated the script. The story concerns a concerned young girl who goes to revelation at the local church; alas, the sexually-angry priest she acknowledges to becomes fascinated with her.

In THE CONFESSIONAL, that authority figure would be Father Xavier Meldrum (Anthony Sharp), a Catholic priest who tape records all his parishioners' confessions and murders those he considers too permissive. I might try to make it to some of the other films available on Arrow Player before they are removed, but I don't think I'm going to have time. well-executed and maintains a dark interest throughout, supported by interesting performances (especially Sheila Keith as Meldrum's devoted love). Fumbling with an A to Z as he steers, Father Bernard Cutler (Norman Eshley) drives through Richmond.there are more pros than con with " House of Mortal Sin," but Walker feels constipated with this effort, unsure if he wants to court controversy or make a cracking chiller. Strand-on-the-Green in W4 with Kew Bridge crossing the River Thames in the background and a holder at Brentford Gasworks in the distance. They all had stories that suggested that people in authority (especially in the Catholic Church) will more than likely abuse that authority and abuse it in such an underhanded way as to cause the deaths of the people they are supposed to be protecting. He's less than overjoyed, however, to find out about the blackmail: "Bugger the church authorities, I'm gonna sort 'im art meself! House of Mortal Sin is similar to House of Whipcord, as Walker turns his sights on a priest who takes it upon himself to cleanse people of their sins. When Jenny Welch (Susan Penhaligon) goes to confession and tells Father Meldrum that she has had an abortion, he decides that all those involved should be punished.Meldrum uses his status and crazed persistence to work his way into Jenny's life by any means necessary. Jenny, understandably hurt by this behaviour, decides to go to confessional (oh-oh), where she wastes no time in telling all to a Father Meldrum: "He doesn't care about my feelings, he's got other girls…" But she soon gets scared by the priest's overbearing attitude ("There's no need to be embarrassed discussing sexual matters with me…") and runs away, straight into the arms of Bob, a man with a bad jacket and an Italian sports car.
