Description

We organize monthly meetings with interesting speakers, social events, day trips to explore places of interest. There is something for everyone and if you have a special interest which others would enjoy we will try to set up a new group. Please browse through our GROUPS to see what we do. Membership is open to anyone who is no longer in full time employment, who wants to broaden their experience through sharing or learning new skills, and make new friends. We are a self-help organisation, learning and teaching together, with over 125 interest groups covering

The aim of the group is to learn Tai Chi and we will follow the form set out by Master Moy Lin - Shin (1931-1998). His Tai Chi comprises of 108 movements and is a gentle exercise designed to promote physical and mental well being. Joining a u3a is a great way to find and develop new interests and make great friends in a relaxed environment. Do Something Brilliant Today We need additional help on the Committee and at Meetings and Events. Please talk to a committee member if you are willing to help. We currently have a super newsletter for members, produced by our Newsletter Editor three times a year. Please note that the doors will NOT be open until 1.30 pm enabling your Committee to prepare the seating, etc.

A gloriously sunny November morning with bright blue sky and colourful leaves everywhere. Big smiles from Sue Shurville our Chair and members. Thanks to Ben and Drae from idverde who ensured the young tree was well planted and secured firmly within a protective frame. See the pictures on the right. Please note# Members are reminded to wear appropriate clothing/footwear and bring any items they may need (such as medication) for the trip. Although the coach driver makes every effort to get as close as possible to our destination, be aware that some walking is involved.

This is an informal group of readers. We meet once a month in members homes. Anyone is welcome though, whether you have room to host it or not, there are enough people who are able to host it. We meet on the third Monday in the month at 2.30pm. We meet every Friday of the month at 10.30am at the Race Course, for a brisk walk lasting about an hour.

The Saturday book group who meet on the first Saturday afternoon of the month have space for new members. Each member takes it in turn to choose a book which is discussed at the following meeting. This leads us to read books outside our normal structure and leads also to lively discussions. Beacon’s membership module supports the maintenance of membership records in an intuitive way. It provides useful statistics, and it allows members to apply for and renew their membership online. The U3As that use this feature report increased member numbers, as it’s easier to join and renew online than by post or in person. NB. PLEASE USE THE BOOKING FORM XMAS WORD or BOOKING FORM XMAS pdf, AND BRING THE COMPLETED FORM AND CASH OR CHEQUE TO THE MEETING, IN AN ENVELOPE. (cheques payable to Northampton University of the Third Age)

However, not everyone uses poles and some just enjoy a brisk walk around the race course, with pleasant company. It is all part of the Generation WOW campaign (which stands for wonderful older wisdom) from Specsavers Home Visits, together with u3a (University of the Third Age), which gives older people a platform to pass on their skills and life experience to others. Beacon was developed within the U3A and has one job: to support volunteers in their day-to-day work. Beacon will evolve to meet the future needs of U3As. The upgrade is being specified now by the Third Age Trust and by volunteers from U3As based all over the country.
