Description

Non toxic and safe, the model toys are made of high quality PVC and thoroughly safety tested to safeguard your child's health. CollectA as we’re all aware has steadily been improving over the years with regards to toy dinosaurs but they still frequently disappoint. Last years Mapusaurus and “ T. rex with prey” still causes us to wake up at night in a cold sweat. So when prototype photos were released last year of their upcoming Carcharodontosaurus, many of us were hesitant to get too excited, despite it looking like a fabulous model. Now with the model in hand I can confidently tell you all that those early production photos did not lie, this model is exactly what they advertised and it’s a beautiful thing. Carcharodontosaurus was one of the largest meat-eating dinosaurs of all time. This terrifying theropod was named after the great white shark, Carcharodon, and rivalled the mighty T. rex in both size and ferocity. It prowled the river deltas of northern Africa during the Late Cretaceous, 93 million years ago. There are subfamilies and genera within this family that you may recognize, such as Giganotosaurus, Tyrannotitan, Lusovenator, and Mapusaurus. Even the recently discovered Meraxes gigas forms part of it, with a recent update on why scientists believed therapod carnivore arms were so short . Is Carcharodontosaurus related to Giganotosaurus? Recommended for 8 years and older, these make a great gift for Jurassic World fans and dinosaur collectors of all ages.

Now, most therapods had brains that were similar to modern birds, those which we call avian dinosaurs. One mysterious discovery is that Carcharodonotosaurus had a more reptilian, or crocodilian, brain due to its size and shape. It had impressive senses of smell and hearing, which would have rivaled those of T.Rex.

While it’s a fun ride to learn more about the physical aspects of dinosaurs, the education lies within their environments. You discover what other dino species were around, as well as the biomes that they enjoyed living in. Here are some exciting environmental details about Carcharodontosaurus. Living Grounds

While this dinosaur was likely the top predator in its ecosystem, that doesn’t mean that it didn’t have to compete with other top carnivores. Fossils of this creature have been found in some of the same areas that Spinosaurs and Sarcosuchus dinosaurs were found. Most likely, these 3 carnivores were fierce competitors and had to battle each other for territory. There are only two official Carcharodontosaurus species, namely, C. saharicus and C. iguidensis . We’ll cover each one separately in more detail within Dinosaur Species . Games and Movies that feature Carcharodontosaurus History: Carcharodontosaurus fossils are known from Late Cretaceous deposits across Northern Africa. It shared its coastal plain and river delta environments with several other large predatory dinosaurs, including Spinosaurus and Deltadromeus. It is still a mystery how so many different large predators could have lived alongside each other in an environment with limited prey resources.

Stromer E. (1931) Wirbeltiere-Reste der Baharijestufe (unterestes Canoman). Ein Skelett-Rest von Carcharodontosaurus nov. gen. Abhandlungen der Bayerischen Akademie der Wissenschaften, Mathematisch-naturwissenschaftliche Abteilung, 9: 1–23 When referring to the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World movies, Carcharodontosaurus doesn’t feature at all. However, it’s available in the Jurassic World Evolution games and many other dino titles. We actually found an interesting YouTube video that sums up its appearance in games. What is the bite force of a Carcharodontosaurus?Scientifically Accurate: Developed in conjunction with paleontologists, this Carcharodontosaurus toy precisely mirrors the real-life creature, enhancing its educational worth. The original fossils found during the 1930s were eventually destroyed by bombing during World War II and paleontologists had to rely on the written descriptions of these animals. However, that changed when another fossil of this creature was discovered in 1996. This specimen was even larger than the original one was. This may very well be the best theropod to date from CollectA, especially with the let downs we got from them last year. They really seem to be striving for excellence with their dinosaur line. Although I do own other CollectA models this is the first “must have” for me, I’m not usually one to buy a model hot off the press. With only one other (and far inferior) Carcharodontosaurus model having been mass produced this is a welcoming addition to any theropod collection. It’s accurate and detailed, fully bipedal and in the 1:40 scale range…what more could you want? Great for active play or creating a mega display, each figure includes movable joints, realistic sculpting and authentic decoration. Each sold separately, subject to availability. The speed was determined by analyzing fossil footprints discovered in Cretaceous formations. Also, lung tissue samples revealed air sacs, used by the predator to run faster and for longer when chasing prey.
