Description

These individuals enjoy a much more symbiotic relationship with their possessing Daemon rather than one of brutal subservience and are the present-day equivalents of the ancient Gal Vorbak of the Word Bearers Legion, the first of the Space Marines to be possessed by daemonic entities. Daemon Prince with Wings [11 PL, 180pts, -1CP]: G’holl’ax, the Decayed, Gifts of Chaos, Hellforged sword, Mark of Nurgle, Warptime, Wings When a Daemon is banished, other creatures from the Warp jostle to occupy the former Possessed. The strongest Daemon burrows into the Heretic Astartes' physical form and reshapes his flesh in hideous new ways. There is nothing that the Chaos Space Marine can do to influence this. Matthew brings us to a close with a pristine collection, including some Possessed, Accursed Cultists, and regular Cultists – plus members of the Dark Commune ! Crisp brushwork and complementary colours combine with brilliant textures to bring this unit to life. This means you’ll end up with some great bits out of here for doing some conversions later, and if you want to build a unit of 10 with two kits, you can do so without having any exact copies. It’ll also help if you have a Greater Possessed or two to add into the mix, since they look great next to these guys and help give you even more variety.

Rounding out Heavy Support are the three Daemon Engines, all sporting the same upgraded profiles they had in Thousand Sons. These are generally a lot closer to decent on rate than they used to be, but still probably a little short of what you want in a list without a specific plan. The specific plan that feels most likely to work out is Maulerfiends in either Red Corsairs or Iron Warriors – they’re not too expensive, and hit like a freight train if they can connect, which either Advance and Charge or extra durability helps them to pull off. Fellow Daemonkin look upon these deformed champions with great reverence, for they are living proof of the ultimate ascension that awaits them all. With gigantic pincer-claws and scythe-like talons of Warp-twisted bone, these malformed abominations slash and tear their prey apart, delighting in the gory carnage they wreak. Both mortal and daemonic warriors are driven to an exultant frenzy when they fight alongside the Greater Possessed, desperate to claim such eternal honour for themselves with a worthy display of brutality. It is suggested in the copy of the Heretica Daemonica held within the vaults of the Ordo Malleus that there exist several methods through which the Daemon may materialise within the body of a Space Marine. One of the few rituals known to be detailed in the forbidden volume, and certainly the most common method through which a Chaos Space Marine may become a Possessed, is the Rite of the Reshaper.

This is… just OK. As far as being a value vs. MSRP goes it’s fine, but long-term you’re probably not going to use the Helbrute and the Havocs are more of a situational add to the army. The Chaos Space Marines notably don’t come with the new sprue to upgrade the unit to have a psyker or a heavy chainaxe – those will be options for the kill team – and so I might generally recommend passing on this box in favor of buying the individual units you’ll need. As the Long War rages ever on, the forces of the Imperium must endure endless assaults from the Ruinous Powers. The Possessed have been involved in a number of incidents of note, many of which have been recorded in the archives of the Inquisition. Lord Discordant, baleflamer, Mark of Tzeentch, Relic – Gorget of Eternal Hate, Trait – Flames of Spite – 190pts, 2CP Not only does the endless carnage satisfy an Obliterator's raging battle-lust, but the warriors that fight alongside these deranged arcano-cyborgs see them as yet another example of the Chaos Gods' bountiful gifts. Chaos Space Marines have a lot of character options, particularly when you break them out by armour type. Almost all of them are melee threats or improve their unit’s melee output. Most of them can join either a unit of Chosen or a unit of Legionaries, so the ones who can join other units are worth special consideration.

Overall, this is an OK alternative to Banners, but not necessarily any better – it has more upside, but takes some planning to make it work, and you may find it’s just not worth giving up aura support to do the action with your army’s key characters. It’s best used on missions like Abandoned Sanctuaries, where you don’t have enough objectives you can safely hold to take banners. Chosen: These guys are basically Terminators that can’t take a chainfist, have no invulnerable save, have a 3+ save, and can go in Rhinos. I could see minimum size squads in Rhinos, dreadclaws, or more being a way to get durable AP-3 or AP-4 melee spam. The third wound here makes them interestingly durable and it’s worth noting that if they destroy an enemy unit, they get all 3 parts of Let The Galaxy Burn for the rest of the battle. 8/10 Similar to the Heavy Support Daemon Engines, the Heldrake comes sporting its fancy new 9th Edition profile, and here also gets the specific boost that it has a baleflamer, so Let the Galaxy Burn makes its shooting quite a lot nastier. Iron Warriors or Red Corsairs still feels like the most likely home for one as a distraction, with maybe an outside shot on Night Lords, as they’re good for delivering the Terror Tactics aura, and can still reach out and put Vox Scream wherever you need it. Lord of War Relics: Word Bearers have an incredibly strong set of Relics, with the Baleful Icon in particular being worth building around. In today’s review we’re going to talk about the new kits, how they’re built, what they’re like to paint, and how they compare to the older kits and other kits in the Chaos Space Marine army. But before we get started we’d like to thank Games Workshop for providing us with preview copies of the new models for review purposes. Possessed Epistle of Lorgar. PRIEST only. The bearer knows an additional prayer, and in your Command phase, if the bearer is on the battlefield, they can chant an additional prayer they know that hasn’t already been chanted by a friendly model this turn. This is also massive, giving you a dramatic boost on effectiveness for your Dark Apostle. Alongside the Tome, this also goes in every Word Bearers army that includes a Dark Apostle. A Sprouting massive horns, gaping maws, and razor-sharp talons in place of redundant soft appendages, the Possessed pay no heed to the puny limitations of a merely transhuman physique. Look how happy they all are to be free from the burden of a cohesive form!
