Description

Intel processor numbers are not a measure of performance. Processor numbers differentiate features within each processor family, not across different processor families. See http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/processor-numbers.html for details. The 12900K boasts a substantial 30MB L3 cache, 14MB L2 cache, and 1.4MB L1 cache. How this affects gaming and workstation tasks is uncertain, especially how the OS’s kernel scheduler manages the “big” and “little” cores in the 12th gen CPUs regarding cache allocation. This might lead to smoother multitasking and better workstation performance, not just heavy-duty gaming.

The laptop features a 12th Gen Intel i7-12700H processor, which has 14 cores and a max boost speed of ABC, so you can expect your laptop to run through demanding tasks like gaming, video editing, and 3D rendering. Plus, paired with it, you have the NVIDIA RTX 3070 Ti graphics card, which should give you slightly better performance than the RTX 3070. The Core i7-12700H is an impressive laptop processor that's set to bring a sizable performance upgrade to many mid-range and high-end laptops.

Intel® Deep Learning Boost (Intel® DL Boost)

In our testing in recent years, we've seen a few trends to keep in mind when you're deciding between processor options. On the desktop, Intel's Core i5 caters to mainstream and value-minded users who care about performance, while the Core i7 is made for enthusiasts and high-end users. On the laptop side of things, it's a little fuzzier; there, you'll want to look more at whether Hyper-Threading is supported by a given chip and how many cores the chip has, as well as how a chip performs in independent testing in a given laptop configuration. How the laptop maker implements a chip and cools it can be just as important as the CPU's spec traits. There’s also the limited edition 14x version that comes with 32GB of RAM and an ultra durable frame literally specced to perform in outer space. Neat!

Then with DDR5 we see that despite the much higher operating frequency, latency doesn't improve over what we see with DDR4 and this is because the Alder Lake memory controller can't run at a 1:1 ratio with the DRAM, forcing us to use gear 2 mode for all DDR5 testing. Even at 6200, we're still looking at a latency of 63ns, which is higher than even DDR4-3200 CL16 memory. So for now DDR5 will thrive in applications and games that require big memory bandwidth and aren't as sensitive to latency. Core i5 – These CPUs are slightly more powerful than the i3 ones. They have higher average speeds and more cores. For instance, the 12th gen i5 CPUs have 6 to 12 cores, which makes them capable of handling demanding tasks. If we compared one chip at 75W to another at 60W, we'd really only be comparing which specific laptop design can send the most power to the CPU, not which CPU actually performs better, which is why we test like this. Boost PL2 power is set to Intel's default of 115W in both instances.

Uni is a fast-paced world and demands the right laptop to ensure you're never falling behind. With HP, you can choose laptops with long-lasting battery life, great features, ample screen size, and compact design, all at great value. A high-performance laptop is what university students need to remain in the loop.

Intel is able to extend its lead when looking in the 75W power class. The 12700H is 36% faster than the 11800H here, and is now beating the Ryzen 7 5800H by 33%, up from a mid-20s improvement in the lower power class. If you want a laptop with a 12th gen i7 processor, then we think that the Dell XPS 15 will be a good fit. Plus, we think the Dell XPS series deserves to be on the best business laptops list. Most thin and light laptops with Core i5 or Core i7 processors that aren't gaming machines rely on integrated graphics-acceleration silicon that's part of the CPU die. Gaming machines and certain high-end systems, on the other hand, have dedicated graphics chips that are separate from the CPU. With 12th Gen Intel® Core™ processors, standard, built-in features enable capabilities like noise suppression, auto-framing, and optimization for bandwidth and video resolution while gaming 3. That saves you time and lets you multitask in ways you’ve only ever dreamed of—until now.
