Description

Sony has built these speakers to provide high-quality sound and considering the brand’s worth, SSCS5 is quite a budget-friendly option. You won’t have to make a separate shelf for these speakers. And as they are light you can conveniently place them on your tabletop. Polk T15 This bookshelf speaker is affordable yet offers a tremendous sonic performance: precise reproduction, immersive soundstage, and low frequencies engaging enough to provide an energizing listening experience.

Worried that the soundfiled would be complex due to 3-way design, I upped the number of measurement points to above 800 but that still was not enough to fully capture the energy above 14 kHz. So what you see in the measurements below, underestimates the highest audible region by a few dBs. The speaker also takes care of any distortion that can happen at very high volumes. Again, its mice reinforced cellular components create an audio projection that is crisp and beautiful. The sounds are natural and transparent, and yet, there is enough warmness to keep the speakers sounds attractive. While the Jamo S 803 is undoubtedly a good-quality speaker, I don’t particularly like its midrange reproduction. When compared to the SS-CS5, mids feel flat and slightly colored. However, the bass feels deeper and more pronounced, so if neutrality is not as crucial as an energizing low-end, you should consider the S 803. Sony SS-CS5 vs Polk Audio T15 The speakers include Klipsch’s signature 1″ Linear Travel Suspension tweeter geared towards a more faithful and authentic sound. The tweeter suspension utilizes exceptionally rigid and lightweight Kapton material. This material provides effortless detail while ensuring that the high-frequency sounds are replicated precisely across the sound spectrum. Overall, R-41M provides better tonal balance, but the SSCS5 wins with its superior clarity and detail. Compact bookshelf designEven on non-vocal recordings, the overall sound was good and full, but the treble was a little rough. Above 4 kHz, there are some peaks and troughs in the response according to this Sony SSCS5 review. I can't help feeling that if they'd taken the cost of that utterly redundant super-tweeter and invested it in one or two extra crossover components, this could have been an incredible value-for-money speaker.

For best results, these bookshelf speakers should be paired with a separate subwoofer that can cover the bass frequencies down to 20 Hz, which is the lower limit of normal human hearing. This versatile speaker is highly compatible with most amplifiers or receivers, whether you have an old audio system or modern gear like the Denon AVR-S570BT or a Marantz PM8006. In general, with an input power of up to 100 W, you won’t need a monstrous amp to make them work. The Sony SSCS5 is a new entrant that stands out with its three-way design. It is among the few inexpensive 3-way speakers you can buy from a renowned manufacturer. The speakers cover the entire spectrum range, making them the best buy if looking for a room-filling sound from a compact design. In terms of sound across the room, the SS-CS5 performs well in most environments, and given its small size, it’s the perfect speaker for small or crowded spaces. These speakers feature a bass reflex system designed to enhance the low-frequency performance. The system uses a carefully tuned port to reduce distortion and improve overall bass response. Sound quality and performance First, find something that will fit the hex screws that hold the woofer and tweeter baffle in place. Surprisingly, none of my allen wrenches fit, but I had a hex bit that did (pictured below). Remove all the screws that hold the woofer in place.

One of the unique and powerful aspects of the Sony SSCS5 speakers is that they use a 3-way, 3-driver system, which means they have separate drivers for low, mid, and high frequencies. This ensures a more balanced and detailed sound reproduction, as each driver is specifically designed for its respective frequency range. Wide frequency response The mid-range sounds and treble are clear and accurate when listening to music with low volumes or high volumes. As vocals tend to fall into the mid and upper frequencies, these speakers provide exceptional voice reproduction. For their price, a pair of Sony SS-CS5 offers unmatched sound quality. Yes, you might get a better soundstage from, let’s say, the KEF LS50 Meta, but these are speakers that cost eight times more, so to me, the SS-CS5 rightfully deserve the popularity they gained among audio enthusiasts. The audio, including the bass, sounds bright. The main limitations of the speakers become more obvious when you reach the peak sensitivity rating. The speakers have a sound pressure level (SPL) of 87dB and experience the highest levels of distortion when reaching the limits of the sensitivity rating.Next, use a flat head screwdriver (or similar) and something to protect the front baffle of the speaker (I used a small piece of thin cardboard). Pry up the woofer where its dowels are glued into the cabinet at the bottom, left, and right. The glue makes an interesting ccchhhhh sound as it releases. I have included a picture that shows the attachment locations in green, and one dowel in red. Remove the tweeter baffle to get an angle on the dowel at the top. Pry up the last dowel, and remove the woofer. The speaker grilles can be attached with grommets (not with magnets), though the SS-CS5 looks decent both with and without them. All in all, there are better-looking speakers out there. Compatibility 4.5 The 100W speakers come with a unique tapered edge of the faceplate and contribute a lot in producing high-quality sounds. It also helps in reducing any unwanted noise that might appear from the baffle board or the cabinet. The Sony SSCS5 speakers have an impedance of 6 ohms and a sensitivity of 87 dB, making them suitable for pairing with a variety of amplifiers or receivers. The impedance indicates the electrical resistance of the speakers, while the sensitivity represents how efficiently they can convert the electrical signal into sound. Bass reflex system

Anyway my 3 cents are that these speakers are well designed and give a nice taste of decent audio for the price of a dinner or two out. (can we go out?)Furthermore, you won’t find any magnets here. But the overall look of these speakers is nice and they do have an expensive look to them at first glance. Integration with other speakers is fairly straightforward, as the SSCS5s can be used as part of a multi-channel home theater setup or in combination with a subwoofer for added bass. Some optional accessories, such as speaker stands or isolation pads, can further enhance their performance. Comparisons to competing models Measurements that you are about to see were performed using the Klippel Near-field Scanner (NFS). This is a robotic measurement system that analyzes the speaker all around and is able (using advanced mathematics and dual scan) to subtract room reflections (so where I measure it doesn't matter). It also measures the speaker at close distance ("near-field") which sharply reduces the impact of room noise. Both of these factors enable testing in ordinary rooms yet results that can be more accurate than an anechoic chamber. In a nutshell, the measurements show the actual sound coming out of the speaker independent of the room. Aside from that, putting large floor-standing speakers in a tiny area means you won’t be able to fit anything else in. Your difficulty can be solved by purchasing the Sony SSCS5 bookshelf speakers according to this Sony SSCS5 review.
