Marshall JE and Kay L (2019) Leadership and Management in Midwifery. Myles Professional Studies for Midwifery Education and Practice: Concepts and Challenges, Edinburgh, Elsevier, pp 211-228. Jayne trained as a nurse at Guy’s Hospital, London and undertook midwifery training at Kings College Hospital, London, moving into midwifery education early in her career. Her first role in education was at the University of Nottingham where she held a variety of teaching and leadership roles, becoming Associate Professor before leaving to take up appointment as the Head of the School of Midwifery and Child Health and Lead Midwife for Education at Kingston University, St George’s University of London. As a result of Faculty restructuring, Jayne was promoted to Associate Dean for Practice Education and Workforce Development across seven health and social care professions. She was the first midwife at Kingston and St George’s to be promoted to Professor of Midwifery via the learning and teaching route. Jayne is also a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, an Aurora Role Model and mentor for the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education and holds the position of visiting Professor of Midwifery at Kingston and St Georges. The most recent book by midwives, parents, maternity care works and others on how to cope with the enormous challenges, and the changes around the world towards respectful, woman-centred care. It’s a book about hope, struggle, research, and tips….it’s like a massive, sunlit, hopeful midwifery college.

Marshall JE (2015) The power of the lead midwife for education (LME): the role, function and challenges, MIDIRS Midwifery Digest 25 (1) pp 11-14. Building a skilled Midwifery Education Workforce for the 21 st century and beyond workshop, on behalf of the Education Standing Committee: 32 nd Triennial Congress of the International Confederation of Midwives Online, 23 June 2021. You can often find huge sections of midwifery books for free. Insights even from sections of these books can be invaluable in shaping your practice. Professor Mary Chambers, Professor Jayne Marshall, Dr Karen James, Kingston University Doctoral ExaminationIt is a seriously cool book. Hippies are cool. They were part of the massive social change, they were using a whole different language, growing their hair, wearing different clothes – and they understood the fundamentals of psychological support for childbirth, and communicated it in a way that resonated.

Marshall JE, Forman J, Sims G, Gillman LJ, and Aubrey D (2015) The Baby Friendly Initiative in practice: A Pan London Development. UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative Annual Conference, Harrogate, 18-19 November 2015, Poster 6. The concept of resilience is introduced for the reader to contemplate their personal contribution in creating an environment that is conducive to protecting the wellbeing of themselves and colleagues within the workplace. He was regarded as a heretic and banned from his practice. But then he started his own unit and became the first president of the National ChildbirthTrust. Being a man from the early 1900s, his writing is sexist and racist in places, but the stories are fascinating, and his emphasis on a woman-led, calm atmosphere being better for birth holds just as true. I suppose I should have felt bad about never buying the books, but I was young and skint and no-one else seemed to be reading them. Marshall JE (2012) Pendahuluan. In Marshall JE and Raynor MD (2012) Keterampilan Lanjut Practik Klinik Kebidanan, Singapore: Elsevier (Singapore) Pte Limited / Indonesia: EGC Medical Publisher. Bab 1, pp 1-7.Margaret (Maggie) Fraser Myles, née Findlay, (December 1892 - February 1988) [1] was a Scottish midwife, midwifery tutor and lecturer and author. She is globally known for her Textbook for Midwives, first published in 1953, which has been considered a reference midwifery textbook for decades. Small moments of confidence can head bullying off and mean it never becomes a problem between you and the person who would have been a bully. It takes practice but you’re powerful. I first became obsessed with midwifery when I was a teenager, and I found out Waterstones had midwifery books. And I could ‘browse’ them for free.
