By December 2017 she’d changed her will, handing Field her entire estate, but things were about to unravel. But at 69, Peter, a man who had been in good health, died after a long period of confusion and illness. Prosecutors later argued that Field had hoped that his extensive gaslighting campaign, which involved hiding Farquhar's possessions and deleting his phone contacts, all of which Field recorded in journals, poems and videos of Farquhar in his drug-addled states, would encourage him to take his own life.

In July 2023, it was reported that Field had applied for the Criminal Cases Review Commission to investigate whether to refer his case to the Court of Appeal. A sign for Maids Moreton, near Buckingham, Buckinghamshire, after police launched a murder investigation into the deaths of two elderly residents, Peter Farquhar and Ann Moore-Martin, of the village who died more than a year-and-a-half apart. Mr Farquhar used to be a lay preacher at Stowe Parish Church where Field is listed as a deputy warden. As a published author, his third novel A Wide Wide Sea, released the year of his death in 2015, was dedicated to Field, who delivered the eulogy at his funeral.Peter Farquhar's A Wide Wide Sea is a tale of friendship, divided loyalty, and the inevitable difficulties of youthful voyages abroad.

The documentary focuses on an unusual case dating back to 2015, following the death of elderly teacher Peter Farquhar in the village of Maids Moreton. The evil convicted killer started to torture his vulnerable victim as their relationship intensified. Like so many people who had come into contact with Field, she was shocked by the revelations about the "lovely, caring person" she had believed he was. Field, the son of a Baptist minister, later admitted to fraudulently being in relationships with the pensioners as part of his plan to get them to change their wills, before slowly killing them off with poisons and making it look like an accident.

Mr Justice Sweeney said Field was a “well-practised and able liar”, adding: “I have no doubt that you are a dangerous offender. The plot revolves around a murderous husband who is in the process of convincing his timid wife that she’s going insane: she hears strange noises, objects mysteriously appear and disappear and, notably, the gaslight keeps fluctuating in the parlour. All while having a relationship with the former lecturer, Field had a string of girlfriends and was in a sexual relationship with Mr Farquhar's neighbour, Ann Moore-Martin who was 57 years his senior.

Before their romance, Farquhar wrote a novel, Between Boy and Man, which details a man coming to terms with both his homosexuality and his Christianity, which was heavily inspired by his personal experience teaching at a prestigious private school.
