Como pueden notar el argumento es simple y se asemeja más a un cuento infantil que a una obra literaria; no obstante, lo que hace que este libro sea una verdadera obra maestra es la capacidad de Michael Ende de cautivarnos con sus palabras, siendo capaz de ofrecer mensajes tan profundos e importantes para cualquier ser humano, a través de una historia ligera con vocabulario sencillo y una narración tan dulce y tierna que te toca el corazón. Es una narración que te conmueve, que te hace sentir inmoral por estar contaminado con tanta basura que existe en el mundo y que te hace recordar que para sentir felicidad no necesitas lograr metas, u obtener dinero, fama o poder, sino que tan solo lo que necesitas es vivir el preciso instante que está ocurriendo en este momento. Es tan simple, pero lo olvidamos siempre porque se nos hace más fácil vivir usando el cerebro que nuestro corazón. Lo mejor es que Michael Ende no es sugestivo con sus ideas, sino lo que hace es mostrarnos el mundo desde la perspectiva de una niña inocente. Y es justamente esa inocencia la que nos hace cuestionar muchos aspectos que creemos normales en nuestra vida. Entre ellos se encuentran la indiferencia por el prójimo, el método de las escuelas e internados que buscan preparar a los niños para trabajar en vez de desarrollar su creatividad e imaginación, el ritmo de vida acelerado con el que vivimos las 24 horas del día, e incluso —sorprendentemente— hasta nos hace pensar seriamente en los juguetes que les regalamos a los más pequeños. En esto último si quedé estupefacto por no ser capaz de notar algo tan claro. Muchas veces regalamos juguetes con pilas, tabletas, celulares, videojuegos, etc., pero no somos conscientes —o lo ignoramos— de lo peligrosos que pueden convertirse todo este tipo de elementos en un niño, ya que pueden estropear la creatividad e imaginación nata que posee el niño al momento de su desarrollo cerebral. Son elementos que nos hacen olvidar cómo jugar y cómo ser niños: Son malísimos. Lo que me sorprende, es que en nuestra época actual, creemos que solo son malos o inadecuados los juguetes u objetos que acabo de mencionar, pero al leer este libro vemos que en esta categoría entran prácticamente todos los juguetes, incluso hasta la radio. Criticamos muchas veces las consecuencias de llevar una vida virtual, pero eso no es nuevo. La vida virtual ya ha existido desde hace muchas décadas cuando nuestros padres o abuelos pasaban todo el tiempo escuchando radio, con la excusa de que necesitaban compañía y algo de diversión mientras hacían sus actividades diarias; excusa, que es la misma en nuestra actualidad y que la denominamos celular, youtube, whatsapp, etc., pero que tienen en común exactamente lo mismo: Ayudarnos a escapar de nuestra realidad. No obstante, el mejor mensaje que el autor nos transmite es sobre nuestra obsesión por el tiempo; mensaje, que se convierte en la principal razón por la que cualquier ser humano debería leer este libro o por lo menos intentarlo. Hora was able to send time to others only if the sky was clear but when it was filled with some there was a big possibility that the people will receive intoxicated time and become like the Men in Grey. Hora placed her to sleep for a year and a half so that the words she needed to help her friends would appear inside of her. She didn't see anyone in the city and the Men in Grey managed to isolate her from everyone. The author of The Neverending Story wrote this book in the German language, while living in Italy. This tells you three very special things about this story. First, it is a beautiful, thrilling, and thought-provoking fantasy conceived by a great storyteller. Second, it comes to us in English through the very gifted J. Maxwell Brownjohn, whom I take to be the same as John Brownjohn, translator of Mimus (by Lilli Thal) and other German-to-English marvels.
