Description

Liquid broth is more appropriate to use when you’re making gravy starting with pan drippings from roasts– because the pan drippings add extra flavour into the gravy. The jury is still out as to whether MSG does cause headaches or other side effects, in the small amounts that are used in food. But what it does do – when used too lavishly – is imbue food with a “sameyness”, a sort of waxy, mouth coating quality. It’s hard to pin down, but somehow the enhancement of the flavour has gone so far it is bloated, like the over-inflated pout of lips plumped with filler.

What a good deal this is, the sale price is incredible. However, if you miss the sale it's still worth having a supply. We use it also to make drinks - OK, the salt content will not do you much good, but it's SO comforting when it's cold outside, or when you have a cold yourself! For example, if you have some leftover vegetables from your grocery shopping (like carrots), add them along with the herbs into your pot of boiling water. These Oxo cubes are great for anyone who likes a bit of flavour in whatever they are cooking. Very simple to use for making gravy, or adding it to other recipes for more flavour. Here’s some suggestions for dishes to serve with gravy. Some obvious ones, some not so obvious ones, all good! This gravy recipe tastes like what you get in those tubs of KFC Potato and Gravy. Those of you who abstain from all forms of fast food may not know what it tastes like. But all you need to know is that it’s everything that you’d expect from KFC – reliably tasty, well seasoned, can make anything delicious!

PS The reason this is faster than most gravy recipes is because the water is already HOT and the flavour is already concentrated so there’s no need to cook down for flavour. First, you can dissolve one cube in 450 ml of boiling water. This will give you enough liquid to add to your dish as needed. Alternatively, you can mix one cube with a little olive oil and rub onto meat before cooking it. This adds flavour and helps the meat stay moist during the cooking process. In my younger days we also used these as part of half time drinks at football for a warm and tasty boost. For a real taste of home, browse our Puddings and Desserts section and get tempted by all of the delicious food that you could have delivered to your door. Remember Angel Delight? Nothing could taste more nostalgic than this lovely whipped dessert and we sell so many different flavours! Ambrosia Devon Custard is another family favourite along with Ambrosia Semolina, Ambrosia Creamed Rice, Ambrosia Rice Pudding and Ambrosia Tapioca (remember that from school lunches?!). For that special occasion you will probably do what we do in the UK and go to your higher end supermarket to get that lovely treat to make your day. We recommend the fabulous Marks and Spencer Salted Caramel Sauce to add that special something to your ice cream or their White Chocolate Fudge Sauce - a real favourite of our grandchildren! Waitrose too can offer you those sweet treats - try their Seriously Chocolatey Dipping Sauce which is simply heavenly!

Ohhhhh.....Oxo..... Nothing beats a couple of Oxo cubes when you are making gravy...or a stew....or a casserole. The taste is natural and no to salty, your gravy or sauce will be smooth as silk with no annoying undissolved granules as may happen with other well-known gravy products and the cube just gives that little lift to any natural meat juices you may use. An Oxo cube in hot water also makes for a great warming and comforting drink in the winter when the temperatures here drop to 20 and the landscape is covered in snow. Minimum life based on 'use-by' date of product. Average life based on last week's deliveries. Life guarantee shown based on delivery tomorrow with the Life guarantee starting the following day. Add salt and pepper if desired as well as any other spice or herb that you like. Once these ingredients are cooked, strain them through a fine-mesh strainer so that only the liquid remains in the pot, then use this liquid as an ingredient for your sauce.

Heinz Tomato Soup

Alternatively, you can just add one or two cubes directly into your dish while cooking it. This is especially good if you're making soup or stew.
