The action then switches to Marlene's office where Angie arrives, having taken the bus from Joyce's house in the country. She is shy and awkward and her presence is clearly an unwelcome surprise to Marlene, who nevertheless offers to let Angie stay at her place overnight. They are interrupted by Mrs. Kidd, the wife of Howard, who was passed up for promotion in favor of Marlene. Mrs. Kidd tells Marlene how much the job means to her husband, how devastated he is, and questions whether she should be doing a 'man's job'. It becomes clear that she is asking Marlene to step down and let her husband have the job instead, which Marlene firmly declines to do. She tries to clear Mrs. Kidd out of her office, but Mrs. Kidd only becomes more insistent until Marlene finally asks her to "please piss off". Isabella Bird is a real-life, nineteenth-century English explorer, writer, and naturalist. Isabella is the only character at the dinner party who never bore children, and the only character whose work was honored in her lifetime… Top Girl is a true story about how Danielle grew up in London surrounded by gangs, crime and addiction. The book takes us through her journey from her childhood to her adulthood where she became involved in a London gang which was rife with harrowing stories of her experience. Its raw and honest. It isn't a glamorous or a pretty story but I really liked 'D' and the honesty with which she told her story. I liked that she took responsibility for her own actions and didn't try to play the pity card and even though in a lot of ways she was a victim she didn't play the victim either. Heartbroken, Danielle spirals deeper into gang life and becomes a key player in a sprawling county lines operation, running drugs to satellite towns all over the UK from the gang’s London HQ.

In 2021, a Portuguese version of the play was directed by Cristina Carvalhal and presented in Queen Maria II National Theatre, in Lisbon. [ citation needed]

Manipulated and groomed at the age of twelve Danielle is soon drawn into the seedy underworld of drugs. If you liked the tv series ‘Top boy,‘ you’ll love this book!! It’s a rollercoaster of violence, drugs, sex, friendship, loyalty and betrayal, all rolled into one fascinating true story of a young girls life, devastatingly let down by the police after a brutal sexual assault, Danielle seeks solace in a local drug dealer, who introduces her to the exciting yet dangerous world of selling class A drugs, she soon rises up the ranks earning the gangs trust, and becomes west London’s ‘top girl’.

I couldn’t help but like Danielle, reading her story. She’s a funny, clever, likeable girl. She reminds me a bit of girls I knew growing up in South London. I definitely don’t judge her in any way for the drug dealing. I have empathy for the trauma she went through and how difficult it must have been, having no family around to help her. In those circumstances, you make your own family, right? I fail to understand why girls of adolescent age in India read Twilight Saga which is full of horror and without any moral or ethics. In fact American writer like Stephanie has no idea about the content which should be allowed for premature mind. What they are getting from this ? Thrill ! Love with a girl and vampire, love story and kidding also. Hard-hitting, addictive, and thought-provoking, I 100% agree with the publishers when they said: "This book should be on the National Curriculum." It definitely needs to be studied by the younger generation, as Danielle's brutal honesty leaves nothing to the imagination. Despite the dark side to this tale, there is also a lighter side, where Danielle spreads the message that no matter what mistakes are made, there is always a way out, and there can be sunshine after the rain. After the break, Nell is interviewing Shona, who claims to be twenty-nine and working at her current sales job for four years. Nell, impressed, suggests that Shona might a good employee for the Top Girls employment agency. Nell then presses Shona a bit on her current job and personal life, collecting details to present to potential employers. Shona delivers a far-fetched story about driving a company Porsche and staying in hotels on the company’s expense account. Nell realizes that Shona is lying and calls the interview a "waste of time". Shona finally admits that she is only twenty-one and has no experience.

Joyce’s sixteen-year-old adoptive daughter Angie is odd, quiet, and stunted. She is a lonely girl, whose only friend, Kit, is four years younger than her. Angie expresses a keen desire to kill her… Top Girl is relatable for all readers, of all ages, with its modern and relevant tone it will appeal to YA readers, as well as those who love true crime reads. I can not praise this enough, and the awareness that Danielle brings, is not only extremely courageous, it is also very admirable. Top Girls is a 1982 play by Caryl Churchill. It centres on Marlene, a career-driven woman who is heavily invested in women's success in business. The play examines the roles available to women in old society, and what it means or takes for a woman to succeed. It also dwells heavily on the cost of ambition and the influence of Thatcherite politics on feminism. Sierz, Aleks (3 April 2019). "TOP GIRLS, NATIONAL THEATRE". Aleks Sierz . Retrieved 15 October 2020. Top Girls is listed as one of the 100 “best and most influential plays” [21] performed in Britain from 1945 – 2010

Jeanine is a young woman who comes to the Top Girls Employment Agency for an interview with Marlene. Jeanine wants to make more money, as she is saving to get married and settle down… In our Indian context , this type of literature will spoil the ethical value of children of adolescent age in general and girls in particular. In his review of the 1983 Royal Court production of the play, The Guardian critic Michael Billington stated that he was convinced that Top Girls "is the best British play ever from a woman dramatist. That is not meant to be patronising". [14] He later in 1997 included the play in his list of the "10 best British plays of the [20th] Century". [15] In 2015 Billington selected the play for his list of the "101 greatest plays" ever written in any western language. [4] In 2016, he also included Top Girls in his list of "Ten great Royal Court plays", where he described the play as the "supreme achievement" of Max Stafford-Clark's era as artistic director of The Royal Court.
