Went in not knowing anything about The Walking Dead nor the characters, but I am looking forward to finding out what happens to Clem (17), Ricca (19, sapphic, Jewish), Olivia next!!

No really, I kid you not. If you are wondering why AJ isn’t with her, well you should have read Skybound X true believer. That’s the issue where she leaves him for no good reason! The writer says it’s because Clementine isn’t happy, but this book and that issue never justified that reason or made it feel like a valid one. I’m usually fine with writers not telling the readers everything, but Clementine's story was already complete, so you have to give us a justification for this story existing or it just comes across as hollow and forced. Clementine's design was based on art director Derek Sakai's own daughter. Sakai described her as having "a crazy sense of fashion", selecting beloved clothing items to wear regularly. As such, Clementine was given an iconic baseball hat that serves as her connection to her parents. [3] Sakai provided Vanaman with other advice from his fatherhood, offering that Clementine would appear smarter if she did not say as much, while still pointing out character flaws should one get out of line. [3] Much of the game focuses on changes to Clementine's appearances and personality as she comes to grips with the new reality of the zombie-infested world. At the start of the game, Clementine is wearing a clean white dress, but it becomes dirty and soiled throughout the game, "reflecting her loss of innocence", according to Sakai. [3] Georgia, knowing that Amos was planning to leave with Olivia, unexpectedly pushes Amos down a chasm, to his presumed death. This article's plot summary may be too long or excessively detailed. ( June 2023) ( Learn how and when to remove this template message)As friendship, rivalry, and romance begin to blossom amongst the group, the harsh winter soon reveals that the biggest threat to their survival… might be each other. [2] Synopsis [ ] Chapter One [ ] They travel together for nine days and finally arrive at the base of the mountain, where they are met with twin sisters who won't tell them their names. Clementine doesn't trust them and tells Amos she's staying with him. They ride a ski lift to the top where they meet a girl named Ricca. She informs Clem that she's been calling the twin with the ponytail Right, and the twin with her down Left. The twins tell them that they only have a cabin and shed left standing from last winter and that they want to build three new structures and a cleared road by the end of winter. They all settle down in the cabin for the night but are woken up by an avalanche hitting their cabin, putting a hole in their roof. Things I hated: AJ wasn't in it and she barely thought of him and never mentioned him to the others. Clementine would never! I also had a shit time telling what was going on in a lot of the images and had to guess a lot based on the text. I'm keeping this spoiler-free because, frankly, I don't care about this story enough to give it that—a full-fledged review. Because I'm tired, and it's evident to me that this whole thing is a mere cash-grab on Skybound's part, and that Tillie was hired for something out of her element.

Clementine is introduced in the first season as a young girl, left in the care of her babysitter Sandra while her parents are out of town, at the start of the zombie apocalypse. She is found and cared for by Lee Everett, another survivor, who tries to help her find her parents, and becomes a father-figure to her, teaching her how to survive. Lee is eventually bitten, and after a tearful goodbye, Clementine travels with other groups. Over several years, she becomes a guardian to Alvin Jr. (AJ for short), a child whose parents died in the apocalypse, and comes to raise him as Lee did with her. As they flee, Kenny's girlfriend Sarita is bit by a walker and dies. When they regroup, Kenny is distraught and refuses to talk to anyone, but he is convinced to help Rebecca give birth to her baby, which is later named Alvin Jr. or AJ. Jane takes interest in Clementine, and like Lee before, helps to teach her some survival skills. The group continues northward despite Rebecca's worsening health. They are ambushed by a group of Russian immigrants, leading to a Mexican standoff. Clementine sees that Rebecca has succumbed to exhaustion and blood loss from the birth, has died but is now re-animating as a walker, and she or Kenny are forced to shoot her to save AJ. This sets off the gunfight, but the group manages to kill the other Russians, and they force the sole Russian survivor, named Arvo, to take them to shelter. As they cross a frozen lake, their added weight causes the ice to break and one of their members, Luke, to fall through and drown. Until this week’s release of Tillie Walden’s Clementine, it had never been an unquestionable masterpiece. Removed from Telltale's The Walking Dead, this is fine. A 3/5 at most. There's pacing issues, and many of the panels are hard to read visually, so it takes a buffering moment to actually understand what is going on. This should not have been greyscale as I think Walden's work leans into the use of color. If she had, I think the legibility of the story would've been a lot better. That, and the quality of this story really takes a toll given that it feels rushed—which explains a lot of the pacing issues, as well as awkward character beats (rushed development, for instance).Matulef, Jeffrey (June 12, 2016). The next Skybound Comet releases will be Everyday Hero Machine Boy original graphic novel (Diamond Code MAY218589) from rising star voices Tri Vuong and Irma Kniivila in September 2022, followed by Sea Serpent’s Heir Book One (Diamond Code MAY218588) from acclaimed creators Mairghread Scott ( Star Wars: Resistance, Guardians of the Galaxy) and Pablo Tunica (TMNT Universe) in October 2022. I thought that Clementine: Book One was a great book and a wonderful spiritual successor to The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series. I thought that Tillie Walden had a really good understanding of Clementine's character and life in the Walking Dead universe. In the video games, Clementine becomes the guardian of a small child named Alvin "AJ" Junior when she is just 10-years-old. Clementine keeps AJ alive and teaches him to be safe. In the final Telltale game, after years of wandering the road, Clementine and AJ join a community of teenage survivors living at an old boarding school and make a home for themselves there. The bond between Clementine and Lee was considered instrumental to the game by Telltale. [3] Gary Whitta described Lee's and Clementine's relationship as "emotionally authentic". [4] To build this relation, Clementine was introduced as early as possible within the first episode; the scene of Lee confronted with Clementine's zombified babysitter was specifically designed to highlight Clementine's likability, resourcefulness, and vulnerability. [3] The writers carefully had to balance elements in this scene, as if, for example, Clementine appeared to be annoying to the player, the emotional bond would be absent and the player would likely make choices without caring about Clementine's fate. [3] Writer Jake Rodkin stated that the difficulties of writing a child character that the player wouldn't want to abandon led to serious discussion about dropping Clementine late in the development process, a week before voice recording was to start. [5] The game designer and writer Harrison G. Pink commented that the in-game decisions were not meant to be good because there couldn't be an optimal play-through. Clementine made those decisions even more difficult, since her presence forces the player to consider protecting her on another level. "It gets way more blurred when you involve Clementine," Pink said. "You have these decisions that are probably the right decisions for the group--she's watching, but then maybe she needs to understand this, but I might scare her because she'll think I'm a crazy person. There's no wrong choice, if you can justify it and it feels properly motivated to you, it's a valid choice." [6]As a continuation, it honestly reads as someone's first fanfiction. Clementine doesn't read as Clementine, not through her actions, her characterization—not even her dialogue. Clementine in this book is angsty, but not in a way that is in-character. Season Three's Clementine already showed an angsty Clementine who doesn't trust people: she's more like spitfire than this husk. Now, I get that characters can react to different situations in different ways, but this is the best way for me to explain the gist of my issues with her characterization without spoiling: she doesn't read as Clementine, we've already done this arc, why couldn't we see something, oh I don't know, new?! It’s been nearly twenty years of Walking Dead media. From its original comic book, the franchise has moved into television, animation, and, reportedly, future feature films. It has been board games, card games, and tabletop miniature games. It has been both video games and novels; it’s even a theme park ride.
