Compared to the Pixel 7a in particular, with its snappy 90Hz display and flagship-grade Tensor G2 chip, the Xperia 10 V simply doesn’t feel like it’s fighting in the same weight class. Sony’s choice of 6GB of RAM is ample, so that’s not the issue here, and you get a solid 128GB of internal storage, too. Once again, not a lot has changed going from the Xperia 10 IV and even the 10 III to the new Xperia 10 V. That's both a good and a bad thing. If you are a fan of the iconic thin and tall, extra light design on the phone, there is just nothing else out there in the midrange space to offer an alternative. Similarly, the 21:9 display aspect ratio remains a pretty exclusive spotlight feature. In practice, it's very hard to make this feature work consistently, and most people would probably just turn it off after a couple of hits and misses. Other than that, it's the standard Android experience; there's no fancy pro-grade creator's stuff here, just your basic stuff. The Sony Xperia 1 V and Xperia 10 V are the latest smartphones in Sony’s 2023 collection, but what’s the difference between the two? There are a bunch of Motorolas, a couple of Redmis, and even the iPhone SE occupying the same market spot, not to mention the offerings from OnePlus, so it will be very difficult for the Xperia 10 V to compete, even though you're getting a lot of phone for your money.

As soon as I got set up, it was immediately clear that I wouldn’t be getting a whole lot out of it. So long as you’re not into playing graphically intensive 3D games like Honkai Star Rail, you won’t notice things quite so starkly as I did. But that doesn’t make day-to-day operations silky smooth, either. The question is, does the Xperia 10 V do enough to tempt users from the Xperia 1 V? Getting motion shots, however, was a whole other story. Without hopping into manual mode to increase the shutter speed, relying on the basic camera app to snap a cute shot of a subject that won’t sit still always felt like an impossible mission. We would be remiss not to mention the Google Pixel 6a. It is an overall excellent and quite popular midranger that just so happens to offer some of the same extras as the Xperia 10 V, like stereo speakers and IP67 ingress protection. Like the Xperia, it is a pretty compact device with a 6.1-inch display-diagonal. Sadly, just like with the Sony, the panel here is limited to a 60Hz refresh rate. Unlike the Xperia and its rather disappointing Snapdragon 695 chipset, the Google Tensor chip inside the Pixel 6a is a pretty decent part with great modern features - most notably, 4K video capture. And speaking of cameras, though you won't get a telephoto with the Pixel 6a, it is hard to compete with Google's prowess in computational photography. Verdict AAC-LC, AAC+, eAAC+, AAC-ELD, AMR-NB, AMR-WB, FLAC, MP3, MIDI, Vorbis, PCM, Opus, 360 Reality Audio Music Format While we’ve not benchmarked the Xperia 1 V just yet, we have used plenty of 2023 flagships with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 so we have a good idea of just how well the phone will perform.

It’s even lighter than the Xperia 10 IV, despite having the same large 5,000mAh battery, while its 6.1in FHD+ 60Hz OLED display is now fractionally bigger and significantly brighter. Also new to this model is a set of front-firing stereo speakers. The Xperia 10 V, meanwhile, opts for a triple-lens system with a 48MP main camera, an 8MP telephoto lens and an 8MP ultra-wide lens. While it may not match the Xperia 5 V’s capabilities, it still delivers excellent photos for everyday use. Battery Life: However, it's the internal specs that leave something to be desired, as the Xperia 10 V is using practically identical components to last year. The 10 V is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, as well as a 5000mAh battery. While the Xperia 10 IV certainly wasn't unusable by any means, it wasn't the smoothest-performing smartphone we've ever tested, so a newer processor would have been appreciated. The Xperia 10 V has more in the way of picture and sound upgrades than the 1 V, with the 6.1-inch OLED display (also 21:9 aspect ratio) now apparently 1.5 times brighter, which Sony says makes outdoor visibility better. The 10 V also gets a stereo speaker set-up this year, with a 20 per cent increase in volume and a more balanced and direct sound, which Sony says is supported with a low noise amplifier. Detail-wise, the Xperia 10 V continues to impress, as the finer wrinkles on Galen Erso’s face are nicely defined, as well as the folds on the villainous Krennic’s cape. As Krennic enters the foreground of the scene, we once again get to appreciate how solid the image is, and how three-dimensional it feels. Outlines of characters are clean without looking unnaturally sharp, which helps to create this depth effect.
