Description

Emily runs away with her daughter to put her past behind; hoping to erase the past and naively simply start again. But 12 years on, it's clear that she hasn't really escaped, 'The past can't be erased, because it lives inside you, and however hard you try, you will never escape.' And this time, it seems like it's not only Emily who's the target but also her daughter, Sophia, 'Your mother isn't who you think she is.' As you read the book, you learn to trust no one. This book is fantastically written with vivid descriptions that absolutely grip the readers attention and puts them right in the middle of it all making your heart pound and you constantly second guessing. Emily has been raising her daughter Sofia alone for years and two were doing just fine. However, as the start book begins, readers learn that something happened to little Sofia when she was just three years old. In fact, Emily has a secret. This was a typical thriller where you knew something bad would happen, but not exactly what. The reader gets glimpses of Emily’s past and realize something happened 10 years ago. It doesn’t take long before we learn some things; Emily had to escape from her home because her husband wanted to destroy their family.

This book is written in first person perspective and the main protagonist is Emily. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them.

Customer reviews

I give this book 5 stars, hands down!… I COULD NOT put this book down… Holy cow. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen – PLOT TWIST!’ Goodreads reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The twists just keep on coming… that final one hit me like an unexpected pothole on a dark night, no way was I prepared for that!’ Goodreads reviewer I feel like the best part of the story was probably a twist at the end I read about . However, I came to a rolling stop at about 80% and decided I couldn't continue . It was to late for me, Sophia starts getting messages online by a stranger who tells her that she does not know who her mother really is, that she is a liar. What has Emily done to get herself and Sofia to safety?? I like the addition of social media and the dangers it might bring.

A completely gripping, utterly twisted thriller that will leave your jaw on the floor. Perfect for fans of Gone Girl, The Wife Between Us and The Woman in the Window. What readers are saying about The Nursery: The cover drew me to the book and I love these kinds of psychological thrillers. I have never read a novel by Sue Watson before l, but now I had the chance to do so! I remember liking the description but when I started reading I had no clue anymore what was that, so I basically went in blind. This was a well-written novel filled with drama, full of twists and turns to totally grip the reader.

Advance Praise

But when Emily catches Sofia messaging a stranger online, her heart pounds in her chest as she reads the last message received. Then: Morning light shines into the nursery, casting shadows across the pale pink walls and wooden cot in the middle of the room. She opens the door expecting to hear the soft coo of her daughter Sofia stretching herself awake. But the room is silent. The cot is empty. Her little girl has vanished… The last chapters were interesting, but I didn’t quite buy it. It was too elaborate and I couldn’t see it happening in real life. The last twist was good though, but there was simply to many secrets and different motives. Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read the prologue and first two chapters of Sue's 'The Sister-In-Law'. I haven't read this yet but after reading these chapters I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy!!

None of the characters are entirely likeable which probably didn't help. Emily is a mass of contradictions. Sofia is bratty. Nancy is a selfish cow. Oliver is too smooth. Cerys is psychotic. Only Mr Woods is likeable but who is he really? One thing is for certain...trust no one! I certainly didn't. But when Emily catches Sofia messaging a stranger online, and as she reads the last message received, her heart pounds in her chest. Sue Watson writes amazingly different books, dealing with unique topics and ideas and stories but reassuringly always good cakes or mouth watering food appear somewhere in the storyThen:Morning light shines into the nursery, casting shadows across the pale pink walls and wooden cot in the middle of the room. She opens the door expecting to hear the soft coo of her daughter Sofia stretching herself awake. But the room is silent. The cot is empty. Her little girl has vanished… Oh my goodness… My head is still spinning…Twist after twist, jaw-dropper after jaw-dropper, bombshell after bombshell… I didn’t know who to trust and it was all just so delicious!’ Goodreads reviewer ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mყ 𝐒ყɴ𝐨ρѕιѕ: Emily and Sophia escaped twelve years ago to a little village with the help of some amazing elder people in the community and finally are in a good place. But with Sophia being fifteen, she's acting out more than usual & a change her behaviour and attitude are wo Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and Sue Watson for letting me read “The Nursery” in exchange for an honest review. THE NURSERY is certainly not what I expected and though I did end up enjoying it, it took a while to get there. It ended up a good read but it could have been a spectacular read! It was certainly a different avenue I'd not expected from one of my favourite authors and while not my favourite, I still enjoyed the ride...even if I was puzzled for most of it.
