Deverill Chronicles Series by Santa Montefiore - Goodreads

The second book in the #1 international bestselling series about the powerful ties between three women and their determination to return home. I just loved this series, but could not continue as my library was closed do to COVID 19. I found that I could borrow an audio copy of this wonderful book from Overdrive. I have never read a audiobook and had no desire to do so. Most of Montefiore’s novels touching, magical and remarkable as they are, are a combination of real life experiences/stories and some fiction. The stories, plots, and characters that she writes about from the first novel Meet Me Under Ombu Tree and the other novels that followed are a sum of her experiences. Most of the characters in the novels have to deal with many painful experiences that the author asserts are important as a nostalgic way of reliving the past and making sense of the present. Nonetheless, the books are written to touch people on a spiritual and emotional level even as they entertain. While her very first novel was set in Argentina, her preceding novels have been in Chile, France, and Italy, countries that tend to have the same herb scented, balmy, and warm breezes just like Argentina. She has also done one of her novels in the wild beaches of Connemara, Ireland for its melancholy, gothic, and haunting tone that were missing in the other novels.Currently I am thinking of nothing but these books. That says a lot. I love books that utterly consume you and draw you in so that you can think of nothing else. The Deverill family feel as close to me at the moment as some of my dearest friends. I find that I am silently routing for them to succeed and praying the outcome is a happy one! Castle Deverill, cherished home to the Deverill family in the west of Ireland for hundreds of years, has burned to the ground. But young and flighty Celia Deverill is determined to restore the sad ruin to its former glory. Celia married well and has the wealth to keep it in the family... and she cannot bear to see her beloved home stand neglected. I just finished reading The French Gardener. What a marvelous story.I loved how you weaved the two stories together. The descriptions of the gardens and the cottage made me want to go and visit. I look forward to reading more of your stories. Reply The prose is polished and rich. The characters are flawed, driven, eccentric, and alluring. And the exceptionally compelling, well-paced plot is filled with familial dynamics, drama, emotion, self-discovery, secrets, revelations, love, loss, heartbreak, courage, duty, and passion all surrounded by authentic historical events of the time.

Daughters of Castle Deverill : Montefiore, Santa, 1970 Daughters of Castle Deverill : Montefiore, Santa, 1970

Born in England in 1970 Santa Montefiore grew up on a farm in Hampshire and was educated at Sherborne School for Girls. She read Spanish and Italian at Exeter University and spent much of the 90s in Buenos Aires, where her mother grew up. She converted to Judaism in 1998 and married historian Simon Sebag Montefiore in the Liberal Jewish Synagogue in London. They live with their two children, Lily and Sasha in London. What a great series! This is the first time in a long time that I didn’t read another book in between books 2 and 3...I just had to keep going...lolI loved the first in this 'family saga over the decades' trilogy but was very disappointed by the second, and was therefore a bit concerned about this final installment. The Last Secret of the Deverills is the third and last novel in Santa Montefiore's Deverill trilogy. Spanning the course of at least 100 years we follow the Deverill family and all there chaotic wrong doings during England and Ireland's political disputes. We follow young Kitty from an infant all the way up to a mature lady. Despite all the atrocious life choices this family make, I swiftly fell in love with each and every character making this a very engaging read.

Daughters of Castle Deverill by Santa Montefiore | Waterstones

Castle Deverill, cherished home to the Deverill family in the west of Ireland for hundreds of years, has burned to the ground. But young and flighty Celia Deverill is determined to restore the sad ruin to its former glory. Celia married well and has the wealth, after all, to keep it in the family and she cannot bear to see it stand neglected. Why would I want to listen to a book when I love to read? I was pleasantly surprised. I just loved to hear the voices of this epic tale.It was a delight to hear this story with Irish accents. It is 1939 and peace has flourished since the Great War ended. But much has changed for the Deverill family and now a new generation is waiting in the wings. Having read all your books, I love Meet me under the Ombu tree most, for the pull on one’s heartstrings. I love all your stories, The Beekeeper’s Daughter would be my second choice, but they are all wonderful and it is hard to choose a favorite. Nobody does epic romance like Santa Montefiore. Everything she writes, she writes from the heart' -- Jojo Moyes

But dark shadows are gathering once more, as the financial markets start to shake. And everything that felt so certain is thrown once again into doubt. At first, I felt like I was missing so many pieces of the puzzle. I jumped right into the deep end of the pool without floaties on. Who is this person, and this person? There is some kind of curse and the castle is doomed? There was a fire and EVERYONE is connected to everyone in some twisted way.

Daughters of Castle Deverill: The Deverill Chronicles: Book 2 Daughters of Castle Deverill: The Deverill Chronicles: Book 2

Meet Me Under the Ombu Tree is the unforgettable, evocative, and moving tale of forgiveness and love. It follows the lives of the Solanas family living in the tumultuous years of political turmoil in Argentina. Sofia Solanas is the lead character, a proud, resourceful, wilful, spoilt daughter of Argentine nobility. She lives on an expansive ranch and has been brought up under the spiritual practices of the gauchos, and the time-honored traditions of her highborn parents. Everybody seems to love Sofia except for Anna, her Irish mother who visits her sense of inadequacy and alienation on her daughter. When Sofia gets into a steamy love affair that her mother believes would disgrace the family if it ever came out, she banishes Sofia to Europe. By sending her away, she inadvertently exiles the daughter not only from her soul mate for over a decade but also from her family. Like I said before, there is definitely a soap opera quality to the book as there is a lot of sleeping around, secrets, illegitimate children, love, betrayal, murder, etc. which make it an entertaining read. And when you add in an Irish castle as a setting, well how could I not love that? The story does bounce around quite a bit from character to character but for me the heart of the book was the story lines of JP and Martha. Definitely recommend especially if you are a fan of fiction from this time period and setting. I have a tendresse for sweeping and epic romantic sagas set around huge houses and aristocratic families and Santa Montefiore hits the spot for me like few other writers. . . . Lush, vivid storytelling." W]ith the Great Depression on the horizon, the childhood friends face further adversity, and once again show themselves to be hugely compelling characters. Montefiore . . . offers an insider’s look at the life of the aristocracy, writing with much skill and insight. Those of us hooked on the daughters of Ireland series will no doubt wait with bated breath for the next instalment of this intergenerational epic.” The second novel in the beloved Deverill Chronicles, perfect for everyone who loves Jojo Moyes, Rosamund Pilcher and Victoria Hislop.I have a tendresse for sweeping and epic romantic sagas set around huge houses and aristocratic families and Santa Montefiore hits the spot for me like few other writers... Lush, vivid storytelling ’ Sarra Manning Bridie Doyle, now Countess di Marcantonio and mistress of Castle Deverill, is determined to make the castle she used to work in her home. But her flamboyant husband Cesare has other ideas. And as his eye strays away from his wife, those close to the couple start to wonder if he really is who he says he is. I gave 4.5 stars to the first book in this trilogy and deliberately saved this second installment for when I could curl up in a cosy chair and devour it uninterrupted; having finished work for the Christmas break, now was the perfect moment.
