The chest panel has a patented non-slip design to keep it in place and allow you to have optimum control over your dog at all times. There are attachment points on the chest and between the dog's shoulder blades. The Halti No-Pull Harness also has 3 adjustment points to ensure you get the right fit. Step 3: Hold out the dog head halter and mark when your dog moves towards it. Repeat until your dog is actually touching the dog head halter with his nose. BETTER TOGETHER - to get the best no pull training experience, use the Halti No Pull Harness with our double clip Halti Training Lead The two sibling dogs I had for 15 years weighed 65 and 80 lbs. They passed in 2017. I was in better shape and they were relatively easy to train. I took them walking or to the Dogpark every single day. It's very rare a product leaves me short of words, but the HALTI No-Pull Harness and its matching HALTI lead fall into that category. Not because they're necessarily bad, but not because they're necessarily good. More, I can't actually work them out.

In my video review, you will see how the Halti Harness tightens around your dog if he pulls on the lead. This tightening does NOT hurt your dog. It simply gives him correction and redirects the pulling behavior. There are eight ways it can be used but I didn't really find I got the benefit of any because of the length and I wouldn't use the tether option in the way described in the current era of increased dog thefts. One important note to make is that dog head halters do not teach dogs not to pull on leash. All they do is reduce your dog’s pulling power. Straps are attached via a slider, designed to adjust to tension and therefore correct pulling. The harness is lightweight, with soft but durable webbing that sits beneath your dog’s arms and helps to keep them cool during walks. The softness of the harness allows for a full range of movements, too, so your dog shouldn’t feel unnaturally restricted either. The cons of using a Halti on your dog

This product is still the most well known of the Halti products. And, it is the one most people think of when they say the brand name.

The Julius-K9 leash is designed to be easy to hold, even in wet weather conditions. With its rubberised construction, you won’t lose your grip, it will withstand no end of all-weather walking, and it simply wipes clean. The secure metal carabiner attaches easily to your dog’s harness ring. This reviewer has been using one for over two years in all terrains with no sign of wear and tear. Yes. Although we extol the virtues of walking your dog with a harness, a collar is still essential attire for any dog (even when wearing a harness). Aside from being a legal requirement in the UK, a collar also tells others that the dog has an owner and isn’t a stray. A collar also allows you to attach a name tag – extra peace of mind that compliments the mandatory microchip underneath the animal’s skin between the shoulders.

What is a Halti – Summary

The heavy-duty plastic clips are seriously large and we wonder if this combination of wide webbing and large clips is the reason the whole harness tends to shift over to one side after a few minutes wear. That said, at no time did the dog – an elderly Labrador – appear to be in discomfort. We suspect the smaller sizes use narrower, thinner and more supple webbing, which should ensure the harness remains in better position. Because the Halti passes over the muzzle of the dog, they are often thought of as being a type of muzzle, to keep the mouth closed at all times and restrict the movement of the mouth. However, the Halti should not be thought of as a muzzle, and this is not its main purpose when working with your dog. What does the Halti do? Haug, L. (et al), ‘ Comparison of Dogs’ Reactions to Four Different Head Collars’, Applied Animal Behavior Science (2002) If your dog needs to be muzzled on walks, for whatever reason, a Halti is not a suitable alternative. Will a Halti Stop my Dog from Pulling?

Wearing a Halti can take some getting used to by your dog, and some dogs simply do not take well to the additional feeling of restriction it provides. The Julius-K9 provides a reassuringly snug fit that doesn’t get in the way of the dog’s movements; the lower chest strap sits just behind the forelegs and doesn’t rub against the elbows. However, it does seem a bit over-engineered. The chest webbing on the Size 1 model we tested is about 5cm in width and strong enough to pull a train. It’s also difficult to adjust. Dog head halters are a piece of equipment, like a no-pull harness, that just makes it easier to walk your dog. I vastly prefer dog head halters and no-pull harnesses over choke or prong collars. The potential for pain and damage from these first two pieces of equipment is much lower. If another dog runs up from behind and spooks them, for example, I have enough control of my own on top of this to stop them from potentially pulling because of their strength.

Are Haltis Cruel?

The best way to stop pulling and maintain a strong bond with your dog is to use positive reinforcement training. Pros and Cons of Haltis Thank you for your recommendations. I have become a mainly bedridden person. Do to an old broken vertebrae re-fracturing, and other spinal problems that run in the family. I may soon be helped by spinal surgery. A dog head halter loops over your dog’s muzzle just below the eyes. You then attach your leash below your dog’s chin. When your dog pulls, the dog head halter puts pressure on the top of his muzzle, pulling his chin down or to the side. The HALTI harness will stop your dog from pulling if you are familiar with how to use it properly, you fit it correctly and you apply calm consistent dog training techniques.
