Hobb drew the geography of the Six Duchies from Alaska and the Pacific Northwest, where she and her husband lived for many years. She wove in the concept of “the Wit”, a vilified “beast magic”. And a character who had been a walk-on part, the mysterious, enigmatically gendered Fool, sidled on to centre stage, helping to turn Assassin’s Apprentice into something different from the usual swords and sorcery fantasy. If you’re naming a video game character, this would be super cool to do if you have the ability to alter the appearance of your character to look a bit more like the famous fictional assassin. On top of that, fans said that the story was a delight for fans of Tolkien’s works. Whether it was the elves, dwarves or shadowy evil, these readers enjoyed how the book placed a modern spin on several of their favorite classic fantasy elements. It makes it a lot easier to find what you’re looking for, even if the name you eventually find isn’t on the list. Maybe something sparks an idea in your head that leads you down a thought process that finally takes you to the perfect name?

Another story on our list of fantasy books with assassins is Nightblade. This novel intrigued fans with its supernatural, Eastern-inspired fantasy world and captivating plot. Cassandra is a whoressassin—deadly courtesan—fighting to find peace from the voices in her mind, willing to take on the most impossible contract if it gives her the answers she seeks. Raised as a killer, Rezkin is a truly epic assassin armed with magical weapons given him by a dead king.

Two men who hate each other. One impossible mission. A legend in the making. Hadrian, a warrior with nothing to fight for, is paired with Royce, a thieving assassin with nothing to lose. Together they must steal a treasure that no one can reach. The Crown Tower is the impregnable remains of the g [...] It also sounded like they thought there were too many elements in the story that made it difficult for them to suspend their disbelief. For instance, these readers often mentioned that the high fear, praise and success Kaz has, even for a criminal prodigy, seemed unfounded. Life as a knight is not what Vedren Chel imagined. Bound by oath to a dead-end job in the service of a lazy step-uncle, Chel no longer dreams of glory – he dreams of going home. When invaders throw the kingdom into turmoil, Chel finds opportunity in the chaos: if he escorts a stranded princ [...] Readers praised the book’s drama, intrigues and mystery plot. They were riveted as they tried to piece the clues together and solve the mystery alongside the characters. Nothing was as it seemed and the plot twists were constant.

Sanderson raises many important questions through the protagonist and lets her grow as she comes to her own conclusions. There's an exploration of class, religion, moral ambiguity, and, most importantly, trust. Rather just presenting a story of powerless to powerful, the author explores how one so exploited can come to form meaningful relationships. Half-elf Jie may not appear much of a threat, but woe to any who find themselves on the wrong side of her daggers!

a b "Ranking the Bounty Hunters who chased Han Solo". "TDYLF". 26 January 2012 . Retrieved 26 January 2017. Clues point towards Alfrahil’s brother, Prince Daerahil, and the scheming First Minister, Mergin. But who is really behind the conspiracy? What Do Readers Say? As if pursuing an elite warrior across a kingdom, figuring out who he is and why everyone he knows is dead, and attempting to find these so-called friends and protect them is not enough, strange things are happening in the kingdom. New dangers begin to arise that threaten not only Rezkin and his friends, but possibly everyone in Ashai. What Do Readers Say? It would also be kind of an interesting plot element if you’re writing a fictional piece about an assassin as well, I would think. But everything changes when their estranged grandmother comes to Prague on behalf of Queen Victoria. Throughout Bohemia, a string of murders and secret whispers hint at a larger coup.

If readers didn’t enjoy The Kingdom of Ash and Soot, they typically said it was because the story slowed in the middle.Overall, critics either said that they felt the world-building was confusing due to its complexity, or that it took them a while to feel invested in the characters. For decades the lands of the Ironship Syndicate have been defended by the Blood-blessed - men and women able to channel the powers contained in the potent blood of wild drakes. Elite spies and assassins, their loyalty has established the Syndicate's position as the greatest power in the known [...] Others, though, mentioned that they were bothered by Eleanora’s naivete. These readers expected her to outgrow this by the end of the book and were disappointed that she didn’t.
