She lives in Glasgow and spends a lot of time on stage performing her brilliant sell-out singalong shows! I have collected together some of my best poetry related resources and would love you to use them in your own classroom. One of my television songs, A SQUASH AND A SQUEEZE, was made into a book in 1993, with illustrations by the wonderful Axel Scheffler. This book would be great to use with KS1 and is full of rhyme and onomatopoeia to reflect the excitement of the adventure of Jack and his friends. A memory game could be played with children of how many items from the patchwork sack they can remember, or a made up story in the classroom as to what they'd put in their own patchwork sack to help them on an adventure and why.

Case studies and activities demonstrate practical applications with clear links to the underpinning theory, while critical reflections challenge the reader and encourage deeper thought about the chapter content. Luckily Granny has packed a patchwork sack full of eccentric items which prove surprisingly useful to help them find their way out of trouble. Granny ate the flumflum (Pat head / Rub tummy: Sitting with our legs crossed, we roll a hand round and round on our tummies, then we pat our heads at the same time). The doctor came and he shook his head (Neck Exercise: We look over one side and then the other side). Not that long a story so could be enjoyed as an afternoon read, but also could be explored further in a topic session. Additionally, there is an exploration of the wider context of reading including international perspectives, new literacies and the importance of reading to personal development. The last thirty years have witnessed one of the most fertile periods in the history of children's books: the flowering of imaginative illustration and writing, the Harry Potter phenomenon, the rise of young adult and crossover fiction, and books that tackle extraordinarily difficult subjects. Julia Donaldson’s engaging rhyming text is perfectly accompanied by beautiful and quirky illustrations by David Roberts. This publication complements the range of initiatives and activities carried out by IFLA’s Libraries for Children and Young Adults Section that supports library services and reading promotion initiatives catering to children and young adults around the world. It is an irresistible journey of Jack and his best friends for the sake of Jack’s Granny, who is sick with a bad case of the moozles! So Jack and his crew set sail, with a large patchwork sack that Granny has filled with an odd assortment of items from chewing-gum to tent pegs.
