In practice, we found that this works most of the time, but clumps of hair and dirt can still get caught. When this happened, the only option was to pull it out be hand. We still think it’s more hygienic than most handheld vacuums we’ve reviewed though. Slide the housing of the upright vacuum cleaner and unscrew the white hood of the vacuum cleaner with a Torx T8. Then unclip it on the sides (with a flat screwdriver) Obviously, there's no floor performance stats to discuss, as it doesn't really matter here. But whatever other surface you're working on, the V7 Trigger will clean it. Battery life is excellent and cleaning power is as good as it gets, with 18 of Dyson’s cyclones built into the vacuum. The larger size means you’ll be able to cover more ground before needing to empty the dust and detritus; ideal if you have a big house with lots of places for dirt to collect.

The Dyson V7 Trigger is a premium handheld vacuum. It’s a pricey model, but offers the same design and cleaning power as the excellent Dyson V7 cordless vacuum. The Trigger also comes with a motorised tool, several accessories, and a 0.54 litre dust canister. The V7 Trigger weighs just 1.38kg, so it’s considerably lighter than corded vacuums. It’s also lighter than most cordless vacuums, largely because it doesn’t have a wand or full-size floorhead. If you need a lightweight vacuum cleaner for convenient cleaning, then the Trigger is a great choice. However, while it doesn’t offer the extreme suction of Dyson’s cordless models on their Boost mode, the Ball Animal is more powerful than the standard modes of such machines. With the added benefit that it isn’t going to run out and require recharging, this makes it perfect for larger, more serious cleaning jobs. Keep in mind that the battery life is greatly reduced when you switch the vacuum to “MAX” power mode. On this setting, we found that the vacuum tends to run out of charge in around 5-6 minutes, which isn’t much time at all. It also takes approximately 3.5 hours to fully recharge, which is around average for a cordless vacuum. The next job on the list was removing fine pet hair and hay from the living room rug. Again, the V7 Trigger rose to the challenge at the regular setting, clearing the area in little more than ten seconds. The MAX mode proved helpful for deeply entwined clusters of hair at the edges, leaving the rug looking brighter than I remembered. One of the things we love about the V7 Trigger is the mini motorised tool, which is a small attachment consisting of a powered brush bar and stiff bristles. During our tests, using this tool made the vacuum much more effective at removing stubborn dirt, as the vacuum can agitate debris rather than relying on suction power alone. On the upside, we like how easy it is to access the V7’s Trigger. There’s no need to dismantle the vacuum to wash it, as the filter pulls out from the top of the main cylinder. Emptying & Cleaning It also comes with extensions aplenty. As well as the main vacuum unit, the extension pole and extra-large cleaning head (with hair removal veins to keep it clean), the Dyson Outsize comes with a smaller soft head for hard floors and a mini-motorised tool for cleaning stairs and other inconvenient places. You’ll also get a variety of brushes, adaptors and other extensions.

The V7 Trigger wasn’t alone in this challenge. As a point of comparison, I also tested the area with a Dyson V8. Both vacuums had a tough time but the V8 on MAX power cleaned the area while the V7 at the same setting struggled. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a versatile handheld that’s reasonably priced and perfect for smaller clean ups, then the V7 Trigger is an excellent choice.

Unscrew the two screws on the inside of the housing (above the handle) with the Torx T8 screwdriver Replacing the Dyson button is not a difficult job, but it does consist of many actions that require careful attention. Although replacement does not require technical knowledge, you do need to keep your head up and use the right tools. In this guide I will help you step by step. When should you replace the Dyson Trigger button? Unlike older Dyson cordless vacuums, the V7 Trigger has the company’s new hygienic emptying system. To empty the vac, you pull up the cylinder to allow dust and debris to fall into a bin. The great thing about this system is that you (usually) don’t need to touch the dirt, as it’s pushed out of the canister by a silicone collar. We found that using the mini motorised tools for carpeted steps, then following up with the crevice tool for edges and corners, left our stairs looking spotless. It’s just as effective at cleaning hard floor stairs too. Pet Hair Put it all together and you’ve got the best Dyson you can buy: its most powerful cleaner to date, coupled with new technology that’s genuinely useful. How does the V7 Trigger compare to other handheld vacuums though? And is it worth the hefty price tag? Read our Dyson V7 Trigger review to find out. Overview of the Dyson V7 Trigger Handheld Vacuum Cleaner The mini motorised head has more than 3,900 stiff bristles to maximise the amount of dirt that’s lifted from the carpet, making it ideal for cleaning furniture, upholstery and stair carpets. The two-in-one combination tool is helpful when vacuuming multiple surfaces, and the crevice tool aids extracting dirt from corners and tighter gaps. The attachments clip in easily, too, provided you keep the couplings clean.

The latest models come with Dyson’s hair-detangling floor head, which combs the brushes of its rotating brush bar as the vacuum cleans, ensuring that hair doesn’t get tangled. And in max mode, the suction is second-to-none. I'd say you'd be hard pressed to find a handheld that does the same job on both carpets and hard surfaces. Having said that, for most upholstery, the V7 Trigger is powerful enough to do the job in regular mode with little effort. And the 30-minute battery life is more than sufficient, too, principally because it only cleans when you squeeze the trigger. When you release your finger from the trigger, the vacuum switches off so you’re not draining the battery when you move from one place to another. The V7 Trigger includes a washable filter, which you’ll need to keep clean to maintain the vacuum’s suction power. There is no HEPA filter included with the vacuum, which is a shame considering we think many people will be using this vacuum for cleaning pet dander and other allergens. The Dyson V7 Trigger is a handheld-only version of the popular V7 series. Read our full review to find out whether it’s a match for your vacuum cleaner requirements.
