Now that I’ve shared where to buy geoboards and more than a few tutorials for making your own, here is a whole list of geoboard activities to try. 6 Art & Design Geoboard Activities for Kids A geoboard is a mathematical manipulative used to explore basic concepts in plane geometry such as perimeter, area and the characteristics of triangles and other polygons. It consists of a square board with a certain number of pegs or nails set in rows and columns, around which rubber bands can be stretched to create various shapes. How to Use a Geoboard

This simple version asks students to choose one of their pictures to draw, and answer the questions. Questions cover counting and shapes. Along with the task cards, this resource includes a recording sheet. Students can name and draw their own geoboard design on the sheet, explain how many rubber bands they've used and circle the shapes they included.Students can use corkboard and pushpins to make a larger geoboard maze. Then, kids use marbles to get through the maze. This lesson helps engage kids in imaginative play and spatial learning. Parents or teachers can challenge kids to get through the maze in different ways! Investigating Fractions: By creating shapes that cover part of the geoboard, students can get a hands-on understanding of fractions. For this geoboard activity, kids will match colored push pins with the appropriate colored rubber band. This activity teaches kids their colors and helps them practice color matching and names. They also work on fine motor skills. Challenge students with geoboard cards. Students will recreate the shapes on the cards using rubber bands and geoboards. They can also create their own shapes on paper and then recreate their shape on the geoboard.

A simple geo board is not only an awesome STEM activity but it is also a wonderful tool for encouraging fine motor skills! This DIY geo board is so simple to make and will only cost you a few dollars. Create geometric shapes and patterns in minutes. We love a simple geo board for young kids math activities. SIMPLE GEO BOARD YOU CAN MAKE! GEO BOARDS FOR STEM PLAY Square geoboards lend themselves to supporting children's understanding of concepts such as area and properties of shape. Circular geoboards are excellent for exploring angles, for example. Use these fantastic Geoboard Challenge Cards to help get your students comfortable with using a Geoboard to learn 2D shapes. Each challenge card features a different shape for children to map on their Geoboards, from basic shapes like squares, triangles and rectangles, to more complex ones like diamonds and stars. Simple, bold and colourful, these Geoboard Challenge Cards have been made by teachers for teachers, readily laid out so that they can be easily printed and used in your lesson plan. They make a great introductory topic on both Geoboards and shapes in general and are ideal for KS1 students. What resources can I use alongside these Geoboards?

Give AI a Try!

There is even a section for your child to count up the bands and write down how many they used during this fun geoboard activity. Science, technology, engineering, and math are so important to expose our kids to at an early age. Projects like this simple geo board are the perfect start!

These geoboard mats are easy to prepare. Just print, laminate if you wish (though recommended for durability) and have fun and enjoy. While working on these geoboard patterns and creating different images on their geoboards, children will be building up strength in their hand muscles, developing spatial skills, practicing their fine motor skills while working on following visual instructions. Two-dimensional representations of the geoboard may be applied to ordinary paper using rubber stamps or special "geoboard paper" with diagrams of geoboards may be used to help capture a student's explanations of the concept they have discovered or illustrated on the geoboard. There are also a number of online virtual geoboards. This lesson is for upper elementary. Students will use geoboards to show their understanding of line segments. Students will create line segments that touch nine pegs-no more, no less. Students then have to label the segments as parallel, intersecting, or perpendicular. Encouraging Creativity: Geoboards allow for open-ended exploration and encourage creativity. There’s no limit to the shapes and designs that can be created.Geoboards are fantastic for fractions. Use a dry-erase marker on plastic boards and wipe off when you’re done. For each theme, there are three different sets of geoboards. Set one contains an easy geoboard, tracing practice, letter recognition practice and asks children to count the number of bands used. How to Use Geobard Patterns and Mats This is ingenious! It’s also a terrific way to play with geoboards when kids don’t quite have the fine-motor control for smaller pegs.

Learning and reinforcing directional and positional words (up, down, right, left, vertical, horizontal, diagonal, etc.) Sally Ride. This project definitely made Sally Ride come to mind. What young girl (and boy) from the 1980’s wasn’t inspired by Ms. Ride? I remember dreaming that I would be in her space shoes someday. Did you know that she got her first job at NASA by answering a university newspaper ad? And her answers to some of the sexist questions reporters asked her prior to her first flight into space are not to be missed: A Ride in Space Article. She truly broke barriers for women in the space industry and remains an icon of mine. This is a great read on how to encourage more young women to follow their passion for science: Girls & Science on Classic Play Time to inspire the next Sally Ride! Students will love making shapes and designs on your classroom geoboards with the help of these geoboard task cards. A note on the template: This template is a simplified star chart that in no way claims to be a completely accurate representation of the night sky! It was created for this fun project only. Encourage deeper thinking with this set of free printable geoboard challenge cards. Visit the link to get the cards and some geoboard game ideas too.As a child I was an astronomy nut. I had a subscription to the kid’s astronomy magazine, Odyssey, and I remember quite a few nights spent looking at the stars with my Dad. In Los Angeles that meant looking at about 5 stars with all the light pollution, however when our family would escape the city for the weekend, my Dad and I would bring the telescope and start looking at the sky Geoboard and bands. I used these Geoboards but… you need to use really small rubber bands or double tie them. I suggest you get this large 11×11 geoboard mat. It is easier for younger children. The one I use included 5 pins by 5 pins, but it was a little challenging based on the size of the bands we had. The larger one has 11 pins but works better overall for little hands. This one is harder to find but it’s also available here. This activity is great for teaching about astronomy. Kids will recreate constellation patterns using geoboards. They make the geoboard using corkboard and will then follow the constellation patterns to make the star shapes.
